Liberty University Theory Critique Paper: Crabb and hawkins submitted to Dr. Jonny baker In Partial Fulfillment of the requirements For The course PACo 507-D04 Liberty baptist Theological seminary By Ella Mabry Lynchburg, Virginia Sunday, January 27, 2013 Introduction Each person on the face of the earth is faced with some type of challenge that may bring sorrow, depression, or anxiety. Many spiritually, and emotionally ill people slip through the cracks daily because they look as if they are well put together or present themselves that way. Some seek out professional help, but others self medicate through their work, drugs, sex, or relationships. For those who seek counseling either secular or Christian-based, there are several models and techniques that are applied to addressing issues. The theories of critique are Crabb and Hawkins models. Evaluating each counselor’s perspective on the counseling environment will help the reader encounter a wealth of knowledge for their own model or theory of choice. Crabb Model Crabb’s approach to counseling is to first understand that the goal is to assist counselees to become more mature so they can please God. He offers that maturity involves two elements: obedience and long-range character growth. In assisting the counselee or client, Crabb insists that it is important for the client to be aware of justification by faith, and glorification. With glorification, one will be made perfect as a preordained decision from God. With justification, the client is acceptable to God because of what God has declared over his/her life. With these concepts in view, the client will have a desire to please God.
