Planet Wise: A Book Review In the book “Planet Wise,” written by Dave Bookless, we see a very compelling argument in favour of creation care being more than a simple care for the environment around us; for Bookless, creation care is written into the DNA of every Christian in the world. Not only is caring for creation a reflection of God’s will for the world, but it is something all Christians should do as an act of worship. All Christians are called to meet together, read the bible, pray and share the Good News; which is a joy held by all believers, but creation care is also essential to following Jesus. Bookless lays out his work in the same manner as the biblical story, moving from creation to Jesus and everything in-between. This creative format is followed in this review.
To survive as a church in this modern western world, we need a huge paradigm shift of being missional. “Missional” is the buzz word today for outreach, evangelism, holistic gospel, and more. So it’s broad meaning can get lost in its overuse. I would define it as the incarnational reality of Christ naturally lived out to others, especially those far from God. Or more simply, Christ in us loving others far from God.
Charlemagne’s liturgical influence could be found anywhere during the 10th and 11th centuries. Charlemagne’s special brand of liturgy could be found as far as the Crusades where the leading prelates of the army of God were using the same liturgical traditions as the Carolingians. The efficacious nature of these prayers, ceremonies, rituals and sacraments led up to the development of the ritual apparatus of combat. The success of the Crusaders gave birth to a new kind of war, crusades and the liturgical rites that served these warriors so well. This brought attention to the need to study the actions of late antiquity and medieval chaplains.

Affections are part of human nature and Edwards believed that increasing our awareness about the importance of right affections increases human’s ability to practice religion. Edwards writes, “We see the world of mankind to be exceedingly busy and active; and the affections of men are the springs of the motion: take away all love and hatred, all hope and fear, all anger, zeal and affectionate desire, and the world would be, in a great measure, motionless and dead” (Kerr, p. 200). There are some many different things, different affections that can occupy person’s mind and leave no room for spiritual affections. Edwards goes even further by explaining that even if you have knowledge of religion and doctrines without affection “never is engaged in the business of religion” (Kerr, p. 200). It is important in Edward’s understanding that affections are learned by the individual and he/she must distinguish between the most important and less important affections.
I would say that history is constantly repeating because all of the leaders today make so many of their decisions from looking at past leaders decisions. A big deal of their decisions is based on religion, what their country likes, and what’s been going on the past years. Also, people try to continue past rituals and decisions because they think it’s what’s going to make people content. A lot of leaders, in my opinion, look at what’s been so successful the past years, and they believe that if it was successful then, it will be successful now, so they’re ultimate decision is to follow what’s occurred in the past and make it
