Introduction
The development of aggression takes place from infancy to adolescence.   During these stages there are different types of aggressive behavior that the adolescent may exhibit. In this paper five types of aggressive behavior will be analyzed; physical aggression, proactive aggression, reactive aggression, relational aggression, and verbal aggression.   At the initiation of adolescence, these forms of aggression may have taken place.   These types of aggressive behavior may affect the adolescent’s relationships with family and peers.   In some cases counseling is needed to help the adolescent control the aggressive behavior.   Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Group Therapy (GT), Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) and Pharmacotherapy has been effective in treating aggressive behavior in adolescents.
Most theorists look at aggression as part of our human biological heritage. Freud believed the “final aim of the aggressive drive is self destruction” (Fiest & Fiest, 2009, p. 33).   In a study done by Bandura (1963), the theorist “believes that aggressive actions ordinarily lead to further aggression” (Fiest & Fiest., 2009, p.500).   This aggressive behavior comes from modeling others, their positive and negative experiences and reinforcements, teachings and strange beliefs (Fiest & Fiest, 2009).   Aggression in the DSM-IV is a major characteristic in a number of Axis I and II disorders, such as conduct disorder and antisocial personality disorder (APA, 2000).   It is a common belief that aggression is a part of the human experience and aggressive behavior can be altered in both positive and negative ways.
