Procedure Studies have shown that the procedure of shaving a surgical site prior to surgery increases the likelihood of postoperative surgical site infections. Studies have indicated that shaving the surgical site before surgery can cause a change in or loss of protective skin flora at the incision line, as well as micro trauma of the area increasing the colonization of bacteria, (Celik & Kara, 2007). The Institute for Healthcare Improvements, (IHI) has recommended the avoidance of shaving surgical sited unless it is absolutely necessary for the procedure. They recommend using clippers to remove hair before surgery, outside of the operating room, (IHI, 2013).
In order to draw a conclusion about the effectiveness of preventive surgeries, I would need to see a chart of how many people the surgery was a success for and for how many people it had no effect. At the University of Texas, further research by Langlois, et al, in the interaction of beauty in the life of humans has shown that humans seek beauty, but left as many questions unanswered as it answered, extolling the need for further studies. While the study reviewed many theories, and statistical analysis performed, I took a couple things away from my reading; social convention currently drives the rationalization of beauty, there are also deep-rooted evolutionary causes for the reasons we seek beauty. Cedela, known as Ciddy, these social conventions came into play when she wanted to have better medical care for her unborn child. Approaching a hospital in a better neighborhood, she is turned away
Restrictions on embryonic stem cells (ESC) research should be lifted around the world because the research has made tremendous progress to cure multiple diseases, aid in the recovery of spinal injury, and human ESC being used by scientist were going to be discarded. ESC research restrictions should be lifted as long as obtaining the ESC does not harm the female carrying the embryos. Joannides and Chandran explain that despite ESC’s ability to reproduce into any cell that is needed, Scientists cannot use ESC as a “one size fits all” for every cell type and expect miracles. The ESC cells must be “custom made” into
