------------------------------------------------- Introduction Issues relating to the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) have gained extensive coverage in the last few decades in several countries around the world, both in literature and the media (Idowu, 2009b). The aim of this report is to discuss CSR issues associated with Kenmare Resources plc identified in “The Mine” case study. Kenmare Resources plc is a mining and exploration company. It was incorporated in 1972. The principal activity of the Group is the operation of the Moma Mine located on the north east coast of Mozambique. This report first discusses the CSR issues in community involvement in three categories: enterprise, rural infrastructure, and social and cultural. This includes a brief discussion on the challenges faced by the group in implementing its CSR policies. Other CSR issues discussed are the environment, minimising social impact, communication, risk assessment, CSR awareness, CSR reporting. Recommendations include improving CSR reporting by adding community members’ personal statements. The conclusion highlights the strengths and weakness of the company CSR practices. ------------------------------------------------- Corporate Social Responsibilities Community Involvement Kenmare faced particular challenges in implementing its CSR policy. Mozambique is a developing country facing elements of poverty, poor health, luck of education and weak infrastructure. For the mining industry, CSR is about balancing the diverse demands of communities, and the imperative to protect the environment, with the ever-present need to make a profit (Jenkins, 2004).
