How do you cope with your memories? Most people are under the impression that to live a healthy, wealthy, successful life they must repress past memories that they feel are lacking in adequacy to their desired lifestyles. Others share an opposing view where to have success and meet goals they must reconcile with the past and integrate it with the present. Despite diversity and adversity, there are still many that are opposed to either principles. Memories should be used in a positive way by both learning from mistakes and turning regret into ambition in order to thrive. Learning from past mistakes is one of the utmost personal achievements that could be made. Each time a mistake is made, whether deliberately or unintentionally, an opportunity to learn a valuable life lesson presents itself. When disregarding mistakes, there is nothing to learn from therefore there is no incentive to improve. While one person hesitates to prosper due to inferiority, the other person who is making and learning from their mistakes is deemed superior. Blunders have to be given an underlying principle by directing one to a place of elation. Failure can be transformed into an opportunity of growth with the willingness to recognize and admit errors. Old memories could either hinder chances of personal triumph or become a vast aspiration to live a better life. To know where you’ve been and compare it to where you want to be is an effective way to live happily and flourishingly in the future. My grandfather, for instance, worked his entire life to attain success. Rather than repressing his agonizing memoirs, he used them as an enticement to have a better life. He came from a poor family that lived in a dilapidated shack, and worked from a young age to keep a roof over their heads. His father was a sadistic, abusive man who beat him recurrently.
