The moon rolls over the roof and falls behind
my house and the moon does neither of these things,
I am talking about myself. (Over here in the first part the poet says the moon is falling behind my house but he was falling because he was not getting any inspiration, he is felling restless and trying to find ideas. It is an extended metaphor. The first two lines are personification because moon personifies the situation of the poet. These lines also personify his life in New Zealand as he thought that other poets in New Zealand were writing on the questions which are answerable and so the poet wants to write something and set an example for other poets.)
It’s not possible to get off to sleep or
the subject or the planet, nor to think thoughts.( it is a sleepless night and the poet is not able to sleep as he does not get any idea he is trying hard but for some reasons he was not getting those idea and he is also not able leave that subject as he is in a creative mood. He is also unable to stop thinking.)
Better barefoot it out the front (he was felling restless as he was not getting any idea and so he went outside barefooted to be with nature without any protection, thus in a way trying to be one with nature.)

Door and lean from the porch across the pivets (it is again a continuum where the poet tells he is leaning from the porch across the hedge staring out at the vast expanse before him.)
And the palms into the washed out creation, (poets see nature as their main inspiration but right now because of some reasons he is not getting any ideas. He fells nature is dull without any inspiration
A dark place with two particular

the other’s an adversary, which may depend ( poet is looking for inspiration and when he sees in the dark sky he sees 2 clouds and so poet tries to get inspiration from the clouds and...
