Task 1 1.1 Identify the persons who are responsible for health and safety on the project described above: list the main site personnel. Identify their roles and responsibilities in respect of health, safety and welfare At pre construction phase the planning of health and safety is an important prerequisite which must be undertaken to comply with CDM 1994 regulations and also the HASAW act 1974, The following key personnel, The Client, CDM Co-ordinator,Designers, Principal Contractors and Contractors are the parties who must construct the planned works for the project. Detailed below is a description of their responsibilities and relationships each party has with one another. Client The client, whether a landlord, private individual or a company, has many health and safety responsibilities. They must demonstrate an acceptable standard of health and safety. Under the Construction Design and Management Regulations 1994 (CDM), they have specific responsibilities: Taken from the CDM 2007/ACOP (approved code of practice) • Check competence and resources of all appointees • Allow sufficient time and resources for all stages • Provide pre-construction information to designers and contractors • Appoint CDM co-ordinator • Appoint principal contractor • Make sure that the construction phase does not start unless there are suitable: welfare facilities, and construction phase plan in place • Provide information relating to the health and safety file to the CDM co-ordinator • Retain and provide access to the health and safety file CDM coordinator The planning supervisor is given specific roles and responsibilities on planning the health and safety before and after a contract under the Construction Design and Management Regulations 1994.Taken from the CDM 2007/ACOP (approved code of practice) •
