Conditional Love Versus True Love

In a recent news article, I read that after an old woman died from disease, her husband took a lot of medicine and lay dead next to her. They laid on the floor and held each other’s hands. You cannot see any pain in their faces. They wanted to stay together to continue their marriage in another world. I was deeply touched when I read this article. How come they are so in love with each other that they want to die together? I think this old couple’s love is true love, because their love is beyond death. Death cannot separate them. Extremely differently than true love, conditional love is more like a business. However, both goals of the two loves are to finding their happiness.
Conditional love is an imitation of love. It’s includes safety, power and pleasure. People in conditional love always want some benefit from the other person, such as money or status and they need someone to provide what they want and need. It’s more like a business. Also, people in conditional love always fall in love with someone when a person meets their expectations or needs. Like that person need to go to the “right” college, have a good job, or dress in the way they like. These things will never make them feel fulfilled. For example, my mom has a friend who divorced several years ago. Recently I heard that she is dating an American. The man even bought her a car. In fact, she does not love that man. She is an illegal immigrant and her daughter is here too. She wants to give her daughter a better life, so she is dating this man in order to marry him and get US citizenship, so her daughter can have a normal life like other American children. This situation is very common. Every year many foreign-born people marry US citizens and petition to obtain permanent residence in the United States.
