I attended the Houston Symphony conducted by Andres Orozco-Estrada on Sunday, February 18th. It consisted of three pieces by the name of Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, Lago de Lagrimas Concert for Flutes, and Symphony no 7 in D minor, Opus 70. Overall, it was a great experience that I would definitely repeat because it was relaxing and peaceful watching the performance. The crowd was very respectful and the setting was professional and fancy. Everyone was nicely dressed and the workers were extremely helpful in directing the audience to the correct place.
Plus, Madeline Pumariega, President Dr. Thomas Meyer, Dean of Academic Affairs; and Dr. Rosa Mayorga, Chair, Department of Arts and Philosophy of the Wolfson Campus for their continued support. To begin, I felt that the instrumentalists all performed pretty well even though it was just a rehearsal before the concert. The composers were able to play each of their individual instruments good enough that the compositions they performed were in tune and it sounded as though we were actually in the real concert that they performed later that day. “You And The Night And The Music” is a song composed by Arthur Schwartz with lyrics by Howard Dietz debuted on November 28, 1934; “Summertime” was composed by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess, re-harmonized by Mike Di Liddo; “I Feel Fine” song written by John Lennon Paul McCartney
The concert hall appeared to be a formal concert hall. It was very dark in the hall with most of the light coming from the stage. The backdrop to the stage was very cool because it looked like a starry night. The concert was a recording so I am not sure when it took place. The band had four main members: Bela Fleck, Jeff Coffin, Victor Wooten, and Roy Wooten.
The sounds coming from his guitar seemed to make a comparison of himself as being a free spirit that had a drive of passion for the music he was making. Throughout the performance it showed that on stage he enjoyed what he was doing and wanted everyone who watched him to feel the exact same way as he did. Hendrix knew how to get the crowd moving to the sounds of his guitar almost to the point of no worries but enjoying the music with the people that surrounded you at the festival. Seeing this musical experience myself made me wish I could’ve witness this kind of greatness and share it amongst my friends in that time period. Overall, what I’ve learned about music is that music is not only written but also speaks like we do as humans but in a different language sort of speak.
It was something I could see being played on a peaceful night, as it's something I could enjoy and relax to. 4.) Title - Road Runner Artist - Bo Diddley Composer - Bo Diddley, Willie Dixon, Jerome Green, Ellas Mcdaniel Musical Traits - Not a very deep vocalist, the music was very up-tempo and he had somewhat of normal-high scream to his music, but sounded very well. The music was something that you could dance and swing around to at a pretty fast pace, as he was jamming on his guitar playing notes the entire time. Topic of Lyrics - The topic of this song is something that would go along with a party or dancing type of social event.
This one in particular was my favorite because of the catchy tune and the lyrical significance. I found the satirical overtone of the whole tune to really signify the problems in the past and often current society. As well, the song was one of those melodies that sticks in your head all day, but not the annoying kind. This kept the tune ‘catchy’ and helped the audience effectively pay attention to the message. The song talks about how the actors have hit it big time on Broadway with their performance of “Pretty Lady”.
Ingram’s speech was delivered perfectly. She projected very well and the whole lecture hall was able to understand all she had to say. She also moved around the room instead of standing in one spot and kept the audience engaged with the two pictures she bought. The pictures on the slide added to the presentation, because it was nice to see her journey in Egypt and also the structure of the pyramids. When asked questions, she answer them perfectly and it gave the audience a better understanding of the topic.
We made eye contact and I could tell that he felt obligated to listen to the story I was telling. However, he was with two of his friends and as he was making his way towards me I could hear his friends making fun of him. He did not hesitate, he came by me and asked me to start the story from the beginning. I felt good about it, he listened through out the whole story even his friends joined us!.” How has your life changed since coming back from Phoenix? “ It really has changed for the better.
Experiencing the works of Britney first hand is the most amazing feeling in the world. The way that she moved up on stage and got the crowd going really made me look up to her as a role model. Her vocals and the way she interacted with us made it such an enjoyable experience. If I had to choose to see anyone in the world for my first concert I would say her name without hesitation. Even through the chaos within her life, I still listen to her music.
Music influences my life in so many ways. No matter what mood I am in, I always listen to music because it cheers me up and makes me happy. As a musician, I can truly relate to music because I listen to different styles of music for the different styles of music that I perform. Music has a huge effect on me and I could not imagine not having music in my life. The media influences the way I feel about music in a negative way.
