Joe Sealy's Africville Concert Report During the February 3rd concert, Africville by Joe Sealy and the rest of the band I noticed many aspects that were remarkable and significant. The first thing I noticed as I was watching and listening was that the Sean O'Sullivan Theatre had a very calm and gentle atmosphere. The colouring and lights were very dimmed and soft. Alana Bridgewater also had a very kind and soft voice, not only as she was singing but also when she was narrating. Overall, the whole performance had a gentle feel to it. Another major part of the performance that I found remarkable and memorable was the ''story telling'' feel that was presented. Alana Bridgewater, singer and narrator, communicated everything as if it was a story about Africville, this was evident throughout the whole concert. This also made the concert more entertaining because it helped the audience create a picture of what the music is about and it created an image for the audience as they were listening to the band. The introduction that Alana read and performed before each song told a story along with the actual song, this made a perfect representation of what Joe wanted the audience to see from the experience. The communication between the band was also very noticeable. Throughout the performance there was communication between every member of the band, the stand up bassist and the drummer seemed to have the most communication though. As I watched and listened I saw the drummer look at the bassist many times and do head movements, facial expressions and other types of communication. Even though this did occur between the other band members, it was not as noticeable or did not happen as often. This demonstrates the connection and the enjoyment that both musicians (the drummer and bassist) had as they played together. Another very memorable aspect of the concert was all of the
