Off to a concert, don’t know what to wear? Well depending on the type of concert you will be attending, there are a few rules you need to know. Appropriate concert etiquette goes from knowing how to prepare for the event to even knowing when exactly to clap. There is a long list of what-to-do from many different sources. The main thing to know when attending a concert is the preparation. There are many ways to find out about upcoming events. Consulting local newspapers, Music Department, websites, and bulletin boards on compass are a great way to see what’s coming up in your area (Forney & Machlis 6). When the event is chosen, you must determine if it is necessary to purchase your tickets in advance or acquire them at the door (6). Before attending the concert it is good to know a little history about what you will be watching. Easiest way to get this information is through the internet. Getting ready for the concert includes knowing what to wear. If you are attending a rock concert you can wear cut up jeans and frayed shirts, but when it comes to an evening performance at a large concert hall or the opening of an opera you must be very dressed up (6). Usually most performances are casual dress, but judging by the formality of the concert should determine what you should wear (6). Arrive at the event at least twenty minutes beforehand. This can help with finding seats, picking up tickets, and socializing. While waiting for the concert to begin it is important to go over the program to learn about who is performing and what they will be performing (6). Also in the program it will have a list of what will songs will be performed, which can inform you on when you should applaud. During a concert you shouldn’t make a lot of noise.
