Do we rely on computers/electronics too much?
The reliance on computers has grown tremendously in the last decade. They are used in business, education, hospitals, and even for entertainment. As statistics show, the percentage of households with computers and internet access has increased in the last three to five years nearly 77 %( Digital Nation). In light of the many benefits of computers, people today have become quite dependent on them. People depend on computers for research, dating, meeting people, and much more.
People fail to realize that sitting in front of a computer for a long period of time can cause numerous health problems. People tend to get headaches, insomnia, and even develop carpel tunnel syndrome. It puts a strain on the eyes and back, making it hard to have good posture (Using Computers Too Much). Radiation comes from the screen and affects the eyes which computer users cannot see everything clearly with high resolution.
Also, it not only threatens the health of humans, but also makes people lazy and not think of anything. They sit in front of computers all day chatting, playing games, and even do some online shopping. When computers become the center of someone’s life, they tend to develop anti-social tendencies. By doing this, they tend to neglect family and other responsibilities of their daily lives. People tend to lounge around, eating junk food and not getting the proper nutrition or exercise that can lead to other serious health problems.
Some people have even become dependent on computers to occupy their children. As John Walsh argues “If your kids are on the computer hours a day then something is wrong”, he also states “Computers are not electronic babysitters” (Walsh).They will put in computer games or sign children onto a game site and leave them unattended.
