Compare and contrast Philippines and Indonesia. Philippines and Indonesia are fascinating countries that are rich in culture and history. This essay will examine some of the similarities and differences that can be identified between these two countries located on the Asian continent. Philippines and Indonesia are similar in a number of ways. First of all, both of these countries are in Southeastern Asia. For instance, Philippines is a sovereign state in Southeast Asia in the Western Pacific Ocean and Indonesia is also a country in Southeast Asia and Oceania. Another point these countries have in common is they are near the sea so they could get lots of advantages like: natural resources, energy, fishing, shipping and travel. Potentially, this is because the sea of these countries is really huge, beautiful and clean. Therefore, that is the best choices for travellers. Finally, the food of both countries is not only various but also delicious. The main meal is rice, meat, fish and vegetable and they also are extremely spicy. Despite these similarities, there are some important contrasts. Firstly, unlike Indonesia, whose area is slightly large, Philippines’s area is significantly smaller, just nearly a fifth of Indonesia. To illustrate, the area of Philippines is around 1,900,000 square kilometres, Indonesia’s is only 300,000 square kilometres. Furthermore, while the unit of currency in Philippines is Philippine Peso (₱ or PHP), Indonesia’s unit of currency is Indonesian Rupiah (Rp). The difference in the unit of currency causes difficulties for trade. For instance, when these two countries have a deal, they have to exchange their currency for dollars so it can be conducted easily.
