“Harrison Bergeron” and “Number 12 Looks Just Like You.” The short story “Harrison Bergeron,” by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and the episode “Number 12 Looks Just Like You,” are both stories of living in a society where everyone is the same. We discover that both stories are dystopian and show conformity is normal, but they do it in different ways. “Harrison Bergeron” and “Number 12 Looks Just Like You,” were futuristic stories. “Harrison Bergeron” was set in year 2081 and “Number 12 Looks Like You” (filmed in 1964) was set in year 2000. In “Harrison Bergeron, the government created a mundane place and everyone was the same. It was very plain and dull which everyone was equal. Harrison Burgeron was a fourteen year old boy that is taken away from his parents, because he threatens to not conform to government rules which everyone must be handicapped if they are pretty, smart or athletic. The episode “Number 12 Looks Just Like You,” everyone is required to go through a “transformation.” People are required to pick from a limited number of physical appearances which change what they look like forever. There were a limited number of models to choose from and once you transform, you look just like other people who share the same model. Everyone wears a name tag, which is the only difference. The purpose to transform is to create a perfect society of physically attractive people, so that there was utopia and harmony. Similarities in the story “Harrison Bergeron” and “Number 12 Looks Just Like you,” is that everyone is the same. Both stories lack the fact the everyone is unique. In “Number 12 Looks Just Like You,” Marilyn states “Mother don’t you understand?
