Compare and Contrast Essay The Sniper and Eyes of a Blue Dog are two different titles for a short story. With different conflicts, symbolism, and point of views these two stories couldn’t be any more different. But, the themes and characters tie the stories together. Comparing and contrasting these stories were difficult. However, writing this essay is was easy. With every plot line, themes and other parts of a short story, there comes a conflict. Conflicts help the story be more interesting. Without conflicts the story becomes boring, most of my classmates agree when they say these two stories have two different conflicts. In The Sniper, the conflict is man vs. man. Which means it is two sides or it was human versus human. In this story the conflict is republican vs. free staters. In Eyes of a Blue Dog, the conflict is man vs. nature. Fate wanted the woman never to find the man. The conflict was woman vs. the dream world. In every story the elements make it interesting. Every story has to have a theme. With no theme the story would never get off the paper and into your mind. In the weirdest way some stories have the same theme. Both stories have a theme of desperation. In The Sniper, the republican sniper was desperate to win. He wanted to kill the other side, no matter who they were. In Eyes of a Blue Dog, the theme of desperation is the entire story. The woman in the story is so desperate she loves a man that she hasn’t met in person. In both stories, the theme explains the characters. Setting helps the reader capture the idea of what the character is feeling and a sense of home to them. The setting is the way the author expresses their point of view of where they feel the story takes place. In The Sniper, the setting is in Dublin, Ireland by O’ Connell Bridge. Also it is on the rooftop where the republican sniper was hiding out. In Eyes of a Blue Dog,
