AHS100/Final Exam April 30, 2013 The work of art I chose was a piece by Joan Snyder, called Lady Labyrinth. It is mixed media on canvas and was done in 1989. One of the two works around this piece is by Mimmo Paladino, titled Canto Guerriero. It is oil, gouache, pastel and wax paper adhered to a canvas. This work was done in 1981.
Grant painted it in 1930. It truly is one of his master pieces. “American Gothic” depicts a farmer and his spinster daughter posing before their house. The gabled window and decoration, in the American gothic style, inspired the painting's title. In fact, the models were the painter's sister and their dentist.
(Georgia O'Keeffe's lifetime awards, n.d.) In May of 1938 she received her first honorary degree from College of William and Mary. She received many other honorary degrees during her lifetime. April 21st 1928, Stieglitz announces the sale of six O’Keeffe calla lily paintings for $25,000, a first for a living artist. In 1949, three years after Stieglitz’s death, she made New Mexico her permanent home and worked in oil, until the mid1970’s. Inspired by macro photography, she used vibrant colors with implied lines, sensualizing and magnifying individual objects.

On the other hand I am fond of the visual appeal of the picture in the eportfolio. 2) How specific and engaging is the profile? Do you have a good sense of this person’s skills and abilities after reading it? How could the profile be made more specific/impressive? Do they mention anything you think potential employers would want to hear more about?
Annie Leibovitz Annie Leibovitz was born October 2, 1949, in Waterbury, Connecticut. In 1967, Leibovitz enrolled at the San Francisco Art Institute, where she initially studied painting but developed an interest in photography. Leibovitz applied for a job with the rock music magazine Rolling Stone in 1970. Impressed with Leibovitz’s portfolio, editor Jann Wenner offered her a job as a staff photographer. Within two years, Leibovitz was promoted to chief photographer at the age of 23 - a title she held for the next 10 years.
The painting I found on “The Metropolitan Museum of Art” named “Madame Georges Charpentier (née Marguérite-Louise Lemonnier, 1848–1904) and Her Children, Georgette-Berthe (1872–1945) and Paul-Émile-Charles (1875–1895)” (Met museum 2012) by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. He was a famous French artist and also he was the leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style. (Artble2012). This painting is the most representative for his impressionist style. I choose this painting because when the first time I saw this painting I was feel so warm and peace, also from this painting I seems to vision my mother and let me feel at home.
Assignment 3 Cultural E HUM 111-World Cultures I Cultural Event The cultural event that I visited was located in Atlanta, Georgia at the High Museum of Art. I attended the event on Saturday, March 9, 2013 with Atoya Upshaw. The event was paintings from Diego Rivera and Frieda Kahlo. In this paper, I will discuss Diego River and Frida Kahlo, their life, how they met, and the two paintings I would save if there were a fire that each artist painted with passion and details from their paintings. Diego Rivera attended art school and had a passion for painting with vibrant colors and details.
Compare and contrast Hockney and Sheeler I selected Classic Landscape by Charles Sheeler, and Model with Unfinished Self-Portrait by David Hockney for my compare and contrast paper. Although quite different at first glance, both paintings exhibited many similarities when studied further. Classic Landscape is oil on canvas, completed in 1931, that measures 25 x 32 ¼ inches, Model with Unfinished Self-Portrait is also oil on canvas, but it is about twice as large, measuring 60 x 60 inches. Hockey completed his painting in 1977. Sheeler’s painting is, as the name implies, a landscape.
