It is difficult to hold prosecutors accountable for acts of misconduct. Since prosecutors are often viewed as the “good guys” by the public, many times unethical, as well as illegal acts will be tolerated by the courts and criminal justice system as a whole. Prosecutorial misconduct is considered any action taken by the prosecutor in a criminal case that is against the law and/or unethical. Prosecutorial evidence can be anything from harassing witnesses on the stand, pressing unfounded charges against defendants, tampering with evidence, withholding evidence, up to taking bribes. Prosecutors can sometimes get away with misconduct as it is extremely difficult to prove that misconduct had actually taken place.
Second, the author addresses the prohibitionist argument that illegal drugs cause harm to people around the user as well. Huemer agrees that drugs have the potential to ruin a user’s life whether it be laziness, poor communication with others, or not taking pride in one’s work. He states that drug use only has a chance of causing one to behave in these ways. There are people all over the world that voluntarily behave in these ways without the use of drugs. Should these people be arrested for being losers?
Have you ever looked around and thought every police officer you saw was corrupt. Or just the opposite that every officer you saw was just one of the best. Well I believe that most likely you were thinking every officer was corrupt. I believe this is because the negative actions of some police affect the image of the entire police force more than the positive actions. I believe this first because when something negative is said in an article or news report the author does not sought out the officer who did the negative action they just simply say the name of the police force.
Empathy is just having the ability to relate to someone but actually feeling bad for them. Evil in the flesh isn’t just someone incapable of empathy its more of a way someone was taught to be or of a family background, such as a generational curse. This lack of empathy does give off the violence of Winston’s world and 911, which equates to evil. During the incident of 911, a group of people called terrorist formed an act of violence towards the United States. This group evil action didn’t come naturally, they were taught everything they knew.
It is easy to blame an individual’s actions on Slender man, because most people take every opportunity to not harm their own name. The myth may seem believable and people may be conditioned to the concept of death, but it always comes back to why the individual can’t recognize it as fictional. If an individual cannot grasp the concept that Slender man is a fictional character, than instead of placing blame on what is not even real, there needs to be a wide range of research and questioning done to figure out truly how mentally and psychologically stable the individual is and how it wasn’t recognized prior by parents or anyone with a medical
The concepts of how standards of objectivity apply to this scenario is standards may be objective based on facts or someone’s morals. My partner believes that what the suspect did was wrong, and I agree it was, but because objectivity is external when we believe something is morally or ethically wrong. The judgment we make we think is right if it complies with the standards of justice in the world. Most people hate child molesters more than any other type of criminal, it is common to see one being harassed or beaten because of it. Unfortunately my partner and the guys in the locker room are not looking at the situation objectively but subjectively, and doing what they think the suspect deserves.
Some of the tactics they employ include starvation, beatings, rape, and gang rape. Also, the traffickers are not the only ones to perpetrate violence. Reading ahead, I noticed we will be learning about Power and Social Justice and this subject fits in perfectly because there is no answer to why people hurt one another. Our previous assignments focused on issues in society such as the one in Enrique’s Journey and Loaves and Fishes and George Orwell’s 1984. Most humans have fear in speaking against something that is unjust and a violation of our dignity because it gives power to the higher authority to control.
In society, when the words “sex offender” are brought up, the public usually has the same image in their mind. They usually would see this image of an older male that unceasingly tries to get with children. They public also has a stereotype for this image, that once your sex offender, you’re always a sex offender. Sex offenders are seen as among the most dangerous kinds of offender in terms of both the impact that their wrongdoing has on victims’ lives and because of concerns about their risk of reoffending. However it has recently came to question of whether this perception of dangerousness is supported.
The inevitability of crime -Functionalists see too much crime as destabilising society; they also see crime as inevitable and universal. They believe that every society has some level of crime and deviance and a crime-free society is a contradiction in terms -Durkheim- views”crime is normal...an integral part of all healthy societies” -Two reasons crime& deviance are found in all societies: *Not everyone is equally socialised into shared norms and values, so some will be prone to deviate. *In complex modern societies, different groups develop their own subculture with distinctive norms and values so what the members of the subculture regard as normal, mainstream culture may see as deviant. -Durkheim’s –In modern society there is a tendency towards anomie (normlessness) whereby the rules governing behaviour become weaker and less clear-cut ,because modern societies have complex division of crime on of labour ,leading to individuals becoming different from each other, -This diversity means that shared culture or collective conscience is weakened, resulting in higher levels of crime and deviance, e.g. Durkheim sees anomie as a major cause of suicide in modern societies.
Cesare Lombroso (CL) was a Psychiatrist that believed that criminals had common facial characteristics and that they were “born criminals” which he also referred to as “atavisms”. His theory was that genetic factors or abnormalities that are inherited influence individuals to commit crime and that it was the individuals destiny to become a criminal`. This can be identified through the shape of their skulls, large ears and lips, long arms and a flattened nose. He also believed that men were more likely to commit crime than woman as they were more narrow-minded of their interests. CL theory has been largely criticised as it is very much descriptive based rather than experimental.
