A 2. Pakistan was established in 1945 and since its inception it has faced countless problems and challenges. These upheavals may include issues like ill-formed/missing infrastructure, insufficient refined resources, barren or obsolete factories and technologies, imposed conflicts at Kashmir and other fronts and an ever-ready enemy to underscore all the efforts towards progress. Despite it being rich on raw resources thus far Pakistan is a developing country with limited development in every era due to the problems it faces.
The five baseline issues existing in Pakistan today which serve as major hindrances in this country’s development are discussed below. The tools required to evaluate these issues as well as monitor them are discussed alongside each issue respectively.
The first and probably the most significant issue plaguing Pakistan today is the dilemma of poverty. An analysis conducted by the government of Pakistan shows that poverty on Pakistan has increased, roughly from 30 to 40 % during the past decade. This means that 40 % of the country’s population earns their living below the poverty line and hence, are deprived of the basic necessities of life such as clothing, shelter, food, education and medication. Therefore they suffer from absolute poverty and have an extremely low standard of living. A large portion of the remaining population suffers from relative poverty which again means living a harsh and deprived life.
One of the tools to evaluate poverty in Pakistan today is through the Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP). This is a potentially powerful tool to evaluate poverty and there has been nationwide recognition of its existing statistics.
