What does volunteerism mean to you? Volunteerism is the practice of volunteering your time and services to the community ,people and your country , doing things for them without pay ,in order to help them. It is important as it improves the quality of life for you and persons involved. Volunteering is the perfect vehicle to discover something you are really good at and develop a new skill. Doing voluntary work over time will enable one to plan and implement fundraising events which will develop goal setting, planning and budgeting skills. Supervising and training other volunteers helps to develop supervisory and training skills. These type of activities also helps us to be a part of our community. People and societies depend on each other for survival. In society today, communities are suffering due to growth of secular societies, but at the same time, we can really bridge that expanding gap through volunteering. Persons who get voluntary help their wellbeing is improved. As a volunteer you return to society some of the benefits that society gives you. Volunteerism helps individuals that are in poverty to gain a new skill or to do better in school so that they can elevate themselves from poverty. This helps a person to develop better morals and work ethic. Volunteering improves one’s character as it develops motivation and a sense of achievement. Volunteering involves giving your time, energy and skills freely, it is a choice, free from pressure by others. This motivation and sense of achievement is generated from your desires and enthusiasm to help. Voluntary work can also help to boost your career options as you are more likely to be employed as employers believe that volunteering can add to skills.
