Although, both Amir and Rahim Khan tell their stories in a formal manner. Hosseini does this to add ferocity to the story, whilst the change of manner of voice suggests a significant change to the reader. Hosseini uses the change of voice to show a turning point within the story as Hassan is brought back to Amir’s memory. The whole chapter is spoken in Rahim Khan’s narrative and is mostly his dialogue in monologue, though readers understand that Amir is listening as he references his presence, ‘‘You’d recognise him.’’ The style of monologue helps tell the story personally so that the readers become involved and indulge in every detail. It also allows sole focus on the story Rahim Khan is telling, once again pointing to extreme significance and importance within the story.
“…bullshit is a greater enemy of the truth than lies are.” The distinction between bullshit and a lie is at times very clear, but it also can be hard to identify. Bullshit is not a lie, and a lie is not bullshit, even though both are considered to be deceitful and insincere. Harry Frankfurt wrote his essay entitled “On Bullshit”, and through reading and analyzing his writing, his position on which is problematic (lying or bullshitting) becomes clear. Near the end of his essay, Frankfurt states, “Thus the production of bullshit is stimulated whenever a person’s obligations or opportunities to speak about some topic are more extensive than his knowledge of the facts that are relevant to that topic” (Frankfurt, On Bullshit, 99). Bullshit is a double-deceit towards a person, because you are hiding the fact that you do not know the information about a topic, and you are spouting out information which you are not 100% sure of, and claiming as if you know enough to hold a conversation.
People’s attitude towards the use of standard and non-standard English varies depending on their upbringing, culture and subjectiveness ass the two forms of English are different in purpose and are context dependent. The use of non-standard English can be to save time due to its ease in its construction and can also enable communicating ones beliefs and culture. However unlike non-standard English, Standard English make it difficult for interlocutors to build closeness due to it mainly being used to convey prestige, power, formality and professionalism. Due to the advancements in technology, many people have shifted from once using Standard English to now using non-standard English majority of the time. Since Standard English is usually time consuming to construct and difficult to use, people find it easier to use non-standard English, where the governing rules and grammar are more flexible making it efficient and easy to use.
In addition Wiesel’s pathos was spot on. He connects with the listener on an emotional level unlike any other speech I have had the privilege of hearing. These feelings however are not just fluffy momentary feelings. After hearing this speech the idea of indifference and its effect on the world is embedded in the listeners mind or furthermore their heart. The solution given to the proposed problem in this speech is not something that is clearly defined.
“Is talk Cheap” “Don’t believe everything you hear of read”, a common quote to help us pick truth out of information. Information is available to us in many forms, like television, internet, radio, newspapers, books and so on. But before accepting certain types of information we are constantly bombarded with, it comes down to the individuals’ beliefs and perception of processing that information. Humans like to be right, the feeling of being right, so anything that is in likeness to their beliefs distort factual thinking. Some humans don’t like to think thoroughly and the brain snaps to the more suggestive decision making process…information more suited to our liking.
Nonverbal communication can be used alone or alongside verbal communication. Either way, your nonverbal communication can affect the messages you send your relationships and your cultural interactions and help you negotiate through conversations. Nonverbal communication can add valuable information to the verbal messages that you are sending. According to Stella Ting-Toomey, writing in "Communicating Across Cultures," nonverbal signals can be used to complement, emphasize, substitute, and even contradict what you are saying through your verbal communication. Nonverbal signals can place the verbal message in a context that provides a basis for how the message should be interpreted.
I overheard some people talking about their families and jobs. The overall atmosphere was very laid back and I felt like it was an area of being judgment free. To those people who really want to better their lives and become sober, Alcoholic Anonymous is a great program for them to join. I believe the key to success and failure in the program is up to the willingness of the
Demonstrative Communication BCOM/275 02-18-2012 Toni Pauls, Ph.D Demonstrative Communication Demonstrative communication is a type of communication that observes nonverbal cues. Examples of nonverbal cues are tone of voice, eye contact, facial expressions, and body language. Your nonverbal signals are just as important as the words you speak and the tone of your voice. Even without speaking people can tell how you feel about the situation by the way that you act, by seeing your nonverbal cues. Tone of voice plays a big role in getting your message across.
A person can tell a story in such a mendacious manor, but the words are painted with belief by the way they are spoken. When a story is told with credibility, it is more likely to have an impact on the listener. Stories have much more meaning and interest when they are told with amplifications. Not all tales are unjust; some tales have a beneficial incentive to them. A controversy comes about when the truth is challenged, and to what extent people are willing to stretch the truth for their voice to be heard.
Another point from the article was “let me know how much you care.” For myself, I feel this to be one of the most important tools a lawyer can have. In order to maintain a steady clientele, a lawyer must make a client feel that they care about the case, instead of looking at the client like a profitable income. Once a client feels comfortable and emotionally met, they will forever talk in praise of that lawyer, and most likely pass on the lawyer’s information to others. However, if a
