During the last decade, the Internet enriched our social lives and our civic connections. People use e-mail, on-line chat rooms and instant messages to communicate with each other. Even adolescents can use the Internet as the same as the older people. But, heavy use of the Net can bring some bad consequences to the adolescents more than what they do on adults. Brent Staples, in “What Adolescents Miss When We Let Them Grow Up in Cyberspace” (2004) pointed out the consequences of adolescents cruising the Net.
However, the documentary fails to acknowledge how the internet has helped kids by providing ways to find answers and acquire research and knowledge. Instead of exploring all the negatives found from the internet and kids growing up with the internet, the positives should also be discovered. The Frontline documentary also revealed that the internet has allowed kids to escape reality by having a “life” online. The internet helps kids express themselves through websites like MySpace, Facebook and blogs. The documentary goes on about how by letting the students have a life outside of reality can cause kids to have insecurity issues and have negative images for themselves.
I researched so many websites because this became interesting to me. The first website that I was on I really liked what I read. Eclkc.ohs.hhs.gov. Challenging behavior is any behavior that interferes with children’s learning, development, and success at play is harmful to the child, other children, or adults puts a child at high risk for later social problems or school failure (Klass, Guskin, and Thomas; Ritchie and Pohl, 2010). We do not call this behavior challenging because it summons you to a duel or battle but because it is threatening, provocative, and stimulating, all at the same time.
Lately, there have been many news stories about young adults who have committed suicide due to cyberbullying. In today’s society, the internet has become very common and it plays a major role in teenagers’ lives. They can shop, express their thoughts, and even make new friends online. It is also important to note how easy it is to distribute information across the internet in very little time. While there are positive outcomes of the internet, there still exist dangerous aspects to it, such as bullying.
Rachel Reine English 101 Section 4 February 19, 2012 Internet Use in Teenagers In response to the new generation’s use of internet and lack of reading classic books, Amy Goldwasser defends the teenage reputation in her article “What’s the Matter with Kids Today?” Goldwasser speaks of how the internet has expanded kids’ minds when it comes to school and themselves, also how this generation has more access than older generations due to the internet. Goldwasser claims that teenagers spending time online is overall good for them because they do read and write. The content, however, is not strong enough for educational purposes. A blog post about how to curl hair or how to pass the perfect spiral is not giving them any educational value. Whereas reading the local newspaper or reading a classic novel like “The Great Gatsby” by F Scott Fitzgerald would provide a more intellectual purpose.
It is meant to be a guide for adults so it would make sense it would be this way . The writer of the leaflet solidifies this by adding relevant statistics and ensamples to describe what is currently happening to social networking sites and what dangers it could hold for the youth of today. The leaflet also goes further on and describes how to safeguard oneself and how to protect ones children from things such as “cyber bullying, contact by adults with a sexual interest in children and the misuse of personal information” whilst using social networks. This in particular is bold so that if a reader like an adult were to pick this up and flick through it they would notice this and perhaps be more inclined to read on. On the other hand the “Collegian” although giving off the impression that it may be more official with its color scheme and layout it is in fact just personal opinions of one “Haley Henry”.
Purpose: The author wants people to be aware of the consequences of their action in using social networking sites. Audience: General population. Voice Tone: She is trying to be serious and credible but I find some of the words and examples humorous. Out of all the examples out there in oversharing, she used the South African man calling his boss a serial masturbator. Evidence: Most of her examples come from people she know or are her friends.
Children are meeting sexual predators on the internet and forming relationships with them and unknowingly allowing them into their lives. Parents must talk to their children about the dangers of the internet. Technology is a great learning tool for them and they will be far more advanced than we were as children, but it also opens the door for unwanted predators who will take advantage of children. With a society more focused on wealth and having a good job and long lasting careers some children are often left in the care of daycare providers. You can often look on the internet and find video after video of the abuse and neglect that goes on in daycares.
So I have to persuade teenagers by starting with a story and I want them know have knowledge about social media. And they will know when to use their time to socialize, know how to keep them self-safe from bullying and if they are the bullying, they will stop bullying others. For parents, they always think that social media is a bad thing but after having knowledge about it, they will stop thinking negative thoughts and teach their kids about things that are positive and negative and they will even have fun time doing social media with their family. And for the church leader they are pretty much the same as parents because they care about teenagers. After learning the good things about socializing, they will
A chilling fact has recently been discovered that by the age of fourteen, seventy-seven percent of teens have been contacted by an online predator. (FBI) Parents can help protect their children by becoming more educated to the dangers of the Internet. The computer should be kept in an area of the house that can be easily visible to you are aware what material is being looked at. A lock can also be placed on the computer to regulate the sites visited, that way there is no way to visit chat rooms or social networking sites. By being aware, parents can help their kids avoid being victimized by internet
