Medication May Not Be The Best Treatment for Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder Medication May Not Be The Best Treatment for Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder Everyday tasks can be a challenge if you have a child suffering from Attention Deficit (Hyperactiviy) Disorder and sometimes we are made to believe that medication is the quick fix but how healthy can it really be. Medication can definitely be more convenient but what harmful effects can this have and are there any other options? Medication may be the most common form of treatment for children suffering from Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder, however studies have shown that following a detailed diet may be just as effective and a much healthier option. Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder is a behavioral disorder with mild to severe symptoms associated with functional deviations of the central nervous system. The characteristics of this disease include a poor attention span, impulsive behaviors, and some children may show hyperactive tendencies. This disease affects between 3% and 7% of American children and has shown to be 10 times more dominant in males. Other risk factors include genetics, Perinatal or Postnatal injuries and Biochemical Irregularities. Nutrient deficiencies are also a risk factor along with sensitivities to chemicals, molds and exposure to heavy metals and pollutants. Most of the mentioned risk factors can be corrected or prevented without medication. The hardest part may be in determining which of these if any are reasons your child has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder. Blood tests can determine whether or not your child’s body is producing the necessary agents to function properly.
