COLUMBINE REFLECTION On Tuesday, April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold entered Columbine High School and killed twelve students, one teacher, and then themselves. By committing such a hayness act these two individuals will be remembered forever. They are the blame for thousands of crisis intervention programs to be practiced and up to date. In this learner’s school there are code red, code blue and a shelter in place alerts . Code Red alert is set in place for the scenario of an armed intruder. Teachers and Staff members are instructed to lock all doors, turn off all lights, cover up all windows and conduct all students away from all windows and doors in all the classrooms. Code Blue alert is set in place for the scenario of an escalated fight that may be between a couple individuals, or any incident in the hallway that the administrator does not want students in the hallways to see or get involved with. In a Code Blue, teachers and staff are instructed to lock all doors, but continue their teachings until instructed otherwise. A shelter in place alert is set in place for students and staff members to assemble in two parts of the building. In this learner school the two places are the gymnasium (9th & 10th graders) and the auditorium (11th and 12th graders). In the event where the school has been locked down and parents must come pick up their students they know exactly where to report to receive their child. This learner is very impressed with the amount of practice that is rehearsed. If correct this learner believes it is practiced at least once a month and fire drills are practiced at least twice a month. It is imperative that schools have some kind of code or alerts set in place for different type of crises. - Ishmael
