Royvonta Taylor 11-4-13 Sociology Dr. Turner Elijah Anderson’s article Code of The Streets is an article showing how children are exposed to the streets and their taught that it is right, or that you can deal with it the proper way if challenged. Also it gives a brief description of how the streets are run under the law the things that no one sees unless they live in the neighborhood. The streets are rough and crooked people stealing from others, killing others, trafficking drugs, selling drugs, and or doing drugs. We don’t notice this but many kids grow up with this problem introduced to them at a very young age. I’ve ran across it in real life and noticed it, and it wasn’t something I liked seeing I felt like the parents are stupid if they can change how their child is being raised and where but they chose not to move them. Anderson also speaks on how respect is such a powerfully loose used word in the code of the streets. When Anderson furthers his essay he makes distinction of the different types of families in the streets. The first is “decent”; he spoke on this with the intent of expressing the families that does everything in their power to make sure but their parents work hard and are willing to sacrifice for their children just so they will have, more classified as the working poor. Those who try to excel and go above and beyond usually deals with a lot while doing so, so thus for most people just work extremely hard to stay where they are now. Next he speaks on street families and the way they live and their code of the streets. Street parents unlike decent families often show a lack of consideration for other people and have a rather superficial sense of family and community. Most parents love their children but still find it difficult to raise them proper and get them all their needs. These are the families who are more fully invested in the code
