Wal-Mart Code of Ethics
Wal-Mart, we all know has been known in our country as the one stop shopping center. However, Wal-Mart was second in line of Sam Walton’s stores. In 1950, Sam Walton opened up a shop known as Walton’s in Bentonville, Arkansas. This was only the beginning of the Wal-Mart dynasty. The first actual Wal-Mart had opened ten years later in Rogers, Arkansas. More than half of this shopping center was financed by the owner Sam Walton. Luckily for Walton, Wal-Mart has succeeded in becoming the world’s largest retailer. Wal-Mart has centered there organization around their famous mission statement that has brought them to great success.
Wal-Mart’s mission has been featured across the globe, and has made a great impact on the organizations success. The mission statement is as follows, “People, Saving Money, and Living Better Lives” (Retail Industry, 2012). Although this mission statement is diminutive in measurement, it has developed a pronounced quality to the entire association. In addition this mission statement has also aided as the foundation of the organizations ethical code.  
Furthermore, Wal-Mart developed seven unique policies that have assisted in guaranteeing the efficiency of the mission. The first is the Open Door Policy; this simply means that managers must have an open door to every level of employment in the organization. Second is, “Sundown Rule, answering employee, customer, and supplier questions on the same day the questions are received” (Retail Industry, 2012). Next is, “3 Basic Beliefs, Values respect for the Individual, Service to our Customers, and Striving for Excellence” (Retail Industry, 2012). Another policy known as the 10-Foot Rule, this instructs associates in making any form of contact with any individual that comes within 10feet.
