Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Critique Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is an alternative history mecha anime, and throughout the whole show its focus is on Lelouch, who is a fallen prince of the Holy Britannian Empire, and wishes to obliterate his own father’s empire. In the current events of the show, the world is dominated by three superpowers: the Holy Britannian Empire, the Chinese Federation, and the Euro Universe, and in order to reach his goal, Lelouch must somehow overcome all this power in order to receive some for himself. Directed by Goro Tanaguchi, Code Geass aired October 5, 2006 – July 28, 2007 on Cartoon Network(“Code Geass”). Though the plot may not seem so original, with so many twists and turns of fantasy and drama, the anime became quite interesting and ultimately became my favorite series. With interesting character developement, enticing artwork, and a captivating soundtrack, Code Geass does not fail to be effective for those who watch. Lelouch Lamperouge, the protagonist, is a seventeen year old student at an all-Britannian school, Ashford Academy. With his sharp mind, he is the student council vice-president and a good chess player and gambler. But, behind all this, Lelouch hides his true identity: Lelouch vi Britannia, the eleventh prince of the Empire and seventeenth in line for the throne. His sister, Nunnally, was blinded and paralyzed in her mother’s assassination. The source of Lelouch’s will to destroy the empire comes from his hate for his own father. He firmly believes that his father did not care for his mother, and though her assassination was blamed on terrorists, Lelouch believes it was planned by the other wives of his father, who were jealous. As a result of their mother’s death, he and Nunnally were powerless, which the emperor, his father, had no use for. Together they were sent to Japan as hostages, and after
