I was born with two Club Feet. Seven days after I was born, I had casts put on both of my feet. The casts were replaced about every 7 days. With each casting, my feet were moved to a new position. The casting process was very painful for me. My mom says that I didn’t sleep the night after a new set of casts. After 18 months of casting it was not as successful as the doctors had hoped. I then had two separate surgery to finish the correction of my feet. The doctors cut my tendons so they could reform my foot and fastened in metal pins to hold it in place until my feet could heal. After the surgery I had full leg cast. I learned how to walk in the full leg casts. My parents said that it was amazing how much balance that I had. At checkups, the foot surgeon would tell me that I was handicapped. I didn’t feel handicapped. The normal foot has a range of 60 degrees of motion while mine only has 15 degrees. This made sports very hard because I had to work twice as hard to keep up with everyone when it came to running or walking. I have overcome this handicap by working hard to reach my goals. I played soccer for much longer than what my doctor had anticipated I could play. I was very proud when he was surprised that I played soccer and keep up with everyone else. I played golf Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years of high school. This was no easy task. I practiced for hours on the golf course. This year as a Senior, I didn’t make the Varsity Team. I was very disappointed but also proud of what I had accomplished. I have a lot of pain in my feet when I’m on them too long and have learned to deal with the pain. My disability has taught me many things. For example, I have learned that no matter how hard things may be it is possible to overcome the hardships. I have also learned that hard work can pay off in the end and to not to let something hold me
