The difference in the two is that although Amy’s mother did have a hard time speaking the language clearer that the average English speaker she was able to have a language with her family that was English but they had a certain bond with it. Richard Rodriguez on the other hand was told he had to speak English even with his parents but his parents were no more an English speaker than he; so, once he began to understand the language better and speak it with his parents, his parents were the ones

Without those papers I would be lost trying to recall what happened. Going through my papers I found I wasn’t very good at reading. At least that’s what I thought at first. I was reading my teachers comments and they all basically stated that I needed to concentrate and I would be fine. The first paper I came across was the results of a pre-reading composite test from kindergarten.

In the United Kingdom, a group of teachers hope to ban the word fail and replace it with “deferred access” (Smerconish 65). Teachers believe that using more politically correct words is better for students. They also believe they can ease pressures on students by changing their grading tactics. Grading papers in red ink has been commonly accepted since the 1700s. However, society has come to believe that the color red is harsh and can be demoralizing to students.
The easiest way to sum up my overall experience in Torrance High English is to sum it up in three sections. First the ghost of English past lets just say I wasn’t the best student in my second year of English. Next would be my struggles through my English career and how I overcame them. Last but not least is my current experience in Mr. Bostwicks English 3 class. Looking back on my English experience here at Torrance High I believe I have learned a lot.
WORKSHEET – UNIT 19 Task 1 – List the different categories of beginner students, giving a brief explanation of each: The absolute beginner A student who has no experience in learning the English language. The false beginner A student who has studied English in the past but has not retained or remembered much of what they learned. They will be able to string together a few simple sentences and that’s it. The adult beginner Highly motivated students who are learning English for their own reasons as opposed being forced to learn by parents or the education system. The young beginner These students lack motivation to learn the language but they tend to pick up the language easier than older students.
The students in this class are intermediate level students aged between 18 and 22. They are currently busy with a very basic English course which is a prerequisite for their specialisation at this Technical college. Unfortunately passing the course exam is not mandatory so many students do not take the lessons too seriously. There are some beginner level students also in the class so realistically they are a mixed level group. They are doing 6 consecutive periods of English daily, so boredom is another major barrier to learning.
