The student nurse will reflect on health promotion issues as this stood out to me in several areas, The student nurse discovered that although we can nurse a patient back to health it is so important to make the patient aware of how necessary it is for them to participate in their care by adhering to what is recommended to them by various members of the Multidisciplinary Team and the devastating consequences that the patient can encounter if advice is ignored. The student nurse will use the Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle, this encouraged thinking systematically about all phases of an activity. Gibbs (1988) is descriptive with regards to feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusions and action plans, therefore ideal for this assignment. Although I experienced many different aspects of care regarding health promotions this assignment will concentrate mainly on a single event that will stay with me throughout my nursing career. According to Scottish Government (2010) Healthcare Quality Strategy for NHS Scotland, nurse’s carers and people at the heart of the healthcare and care delivery services should improve conditions in NHS Scotland and the care provided, on reading this strategy I understand a nurses responsibility, but the importance of patient participation in their own care is invaluable and the cooperation and communication with the Multidisciplinary Team is essential to complete patient care package to the highest standard.
In order to preserve confidentiality pseudonyms will be used and each nursing unit referred to as A and B. The main differences between the two people identified, will be highlighted for discussion. Finally the authors will discuss key organisational and personal opportunities for learning gained from this assignment. 1.1. Definition of a leader A leader is defined as an individual who influences and guides direction, opinion and course of action (Jooste 2004.)
1. Introduction Significance of effective clinical teaching, some strategies to motivate staff nurses in conducting quality clinical teaching, and the ways to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies would be discussed in the paper so as to improve the quality of clinical teaching from the perspective of a ward manager. Significance of Effective Clinical Teaching Effective clinical learning is the core of nursing education. The quality of clinical teaching can greatly affect the students’ competency, their personal development and either facilitates or hinders the students’ decision on whether to regard nurses as their lifelong career. Clinical placement can function as a gap between theory and practice in basic nurse education (McKenna, n.d.).
The objective of this paper is therefore to critically analyse the significant of practice arena in facilitating learning and how I as a registered nurse practitioner can induce learning in the practice area for a better learning environment. The place I work is a multi disciplinary ward consisting of multi range of learners from new to junior staff nurses, assistant nurses, care assistants and student nurses ranging from all semesters. As to this I will discuss on aspects of physical and social climate in learning environment and how learning core relates in that aspect. I will suggest and support with literature and compare with the learning system at my environment. I will also include the role of formal and informal learning and the learning style based on humanism, behaviourism and cognitive approaches and ways androgogy and pedagogy theories core relates in my learning environment.
Patient Teaching Plan Abstract A nurses’ role is being an educator to the patient. Patient teaching is very important part of nursing field. A lot of patient are not fully aware of their chronic illnesses, its diagnosis and treatment, as well as certain skills that is needed for managing their illnesses. That is why our role is to provide these information for the patients so that could have a better health management. In this paper, I will discuss about patient teaching that I have done as a student nurse at Antelope Valley Hospital on the Medsurg Unit.
The necessity for nurses to be able to communicate effectively is vital for the continued care of patients. More specifically, it is crucial that Nurses are able the change their language patterns and vocabulary, depending on the person they are talking to. The communications a nurse has with their patient is completely different to how a nurse would speak to a fellow Medical Officers (MO). There must be a strong, clear wording, instruction and diagnosis when talking to colleagues; otherwise there may be confusion as to the treatment of a patient. However, when speaking to a client, using jargon and medical terms can be considered as inappropriate and confusing for the people involved.
Effective communication is an important skill in nursing practice as it is a tool to uncover service users’ needs and facilitate care. Verbal, written communications, as well as body language, are all vital implementations for successful treatment. A therapeutic milieu is a scientific structuring of the environment in order to effect behavioural changes and to improve the psychological health and functioning of the individual (Skinner, 1979).This essay would also show how a therapeutic milieu was established and maintained.
Introduction Therapeutic communication is the corner stone of good practice and paramount to the provision of good care. Doheny et al. (2007) observed that when certain skills are used to facilitate communication between nurse and client in a goal directed manner, the therapeutic communication process occurs. According to McCabe (2004) patient centred communication is a basic component of nursing and facilitates the development of a positive nurse - patient relationship. Nurses have a great opportunity to shape the future of the nursing practice through therapeutic communication Armold&Boggs, (2011).
Conclusions. We conclude that oral shift reporting may be an important learning opportunity. This is especially true when nursing students engage in professional discussions with their colleagues and superiors. Our findings suggest solutions to improve the learning value of the oral shift reporting process for nursing students. Relevance to clinical practice.
