[16] At 3:10 pm PDT (2210 UTC), the NHC issued its second special advisory for Rick, this time stating that the storm had become a Category 5 hurricane, the first in the basin since Hurricane Kenna in 2002. [17][18] Around 8:00 pm PDT (0300 UTC on October 18), Rick attained its peak intensity as the second-strongest Pacific hurricane on record. Maximum sustained winds in the eyewall reached 180 mph (285 km/h) and the barometric pressure is estimated to have bottomed out at 906 mbar (hPa; 26.75 inHg). The pressure was not directly measured as reconnaissance missions by Hurricane Hunter aircraft were not done because the storm was too far from land. Lixion Avila, a senior hurricane specialist at the NHC, described Rick's satellite presentation at this time as
There are only 2 seasons: summer from May to October and winter from November to April. The average daytime summer temperature at sea level is 85 degree F and the average daytime winter temperature is 78 degree F. Temperatures at night are around 10 degree F. lower. According to Wilson's hotspot theory, the volcanoes of the Hawaiian chain should get slowly older and become tougher the farther they travel outside the hotspot. The oldest volcanic rocks on Kauai, the northwestern most inhabited Hawaiian island, are about 5.5 million years old and are deeply tough. By contrast, on the "Big Island" of Hawaii -- southeastern most in the chain and probably still located over the hotspot -- the oldest bare rocks are less than 0.7 million years

EXERCISE 10 PROBLEMS – PART I The following questions are based on the maps of average January sea-level temperatures (Figure 10-1) and average July sea-level temperatures (Figure 10-2): 1. Is the temperature contrast between the equator and the Arctic region greatest in the winter or summer? Temperature contrast between the equator and the Arctic region is greatest in the winter. Temperatures near or at the equator only change a few degrees between winter and summer, while the Arctic region changes up to 40 degrees between the seasons. 2.
However, due to the Cascades, total precipitation quantities are small. Summers are sunny with clear skies 80-85% of the time. Winds are generally light, with speeds averaging less than 10 knots. Wind speeds of over 40 knots are only recorded about three times a year. A peak gust of 48 knots has been recorded at Yakima Municipal Airport.
By the early morning hours of September 4, Ike was a Category 4 hurricane, with maximum wind speeds of 145 miles per hour. That made it the most intense Atlantic storm of 2008. Ike passed over the Turks and Caicos Islands
Hawaii is more expensive without including the activities to do. Alaska has more to offer with the pretty landscape and Northern lights. In Alaska the hotel is closer to more things to do, you wouldn't have to spend half the day driving to your destination, like you would in Hawaii. Alaska is very different, the sun isn't like how you see it in other states. The sun in Alaska is only out for a couple hours a day, and it only rises about half way up in the sky, unlike Hawaii where the sun is the same as every other state .Hawaii does have a better temperature overall, but Alaska is so different from Hawaii that I feel it would make for a better vacation that you will remember more.

The unemployment rate was at about 9.5 percent to 9.7 percent in the beginning of 2010 up until December and then it started to slightly decline. It got down to 8.8 percent but then rose over 9 percent again by May of 2011 and has stayed around that percentage. This may be a sign that jobs are being created and hopefully the unemployment rate will experience another decrease during 2011. The unemployment rates by age showed that the 16-19 age group is having the worst time with unemployment. The unemployment rates for 16-19 year olds has stayed pretty steadily around 25 percent since the beginning of 2010 until the present and has never been below 24.5 percent.
Each event normally lasts 9-12 months they often starts in spring reaches its strongest point between December and January and appears to end around may of the next year. It frequently brings record rainfall to Peru, Chile and Ecuador. Southern Australia is often hit by drought and it also sees an increase in its temperatures. South east Australia heats up and because it is already dry due to drought there is a massive increase in the chance of bush fires. The other effects on Southern Australia are; lower rainfall, fewer cyclones, late and weak tropical monsoon and lower
