Society is aware that police officers play the most important role in maintaining discipline and those officers are the most reliable for fighting with various types of crimes and criminals. The job of a police officer is a hard one because difficult problems while doing his or her job do arise. This is the reason police officers need to go through a very tough training and also various selection processes so that they do not face any difficulty while handling various criminals and therefore can perform their job very well. Certain levels of police officers such as local, state and federal and the selection process required are as follows.

The powers that police have include search and seizure, access to information, interrogation, electronic surveillance, medical examinations, detention, fingerprints and photographing. Furthermore, the discretion of police can play a large role in the investigation of criminal offences; however, it can lead to certain individuals in society being targeted.

The drug problem in Manchester had grown to the point where each person that was individually met had someone in his or her family or knew someone close that was addicted. Crime was up, petty crimes of theft and simple assaults were up, crimes of murder had risen, and the city was desperate.
Police Brutality In recent years, police actions, particularly police abuse, has come into view of a wide, public and critical eye. While citizens worry about protecting themselves from criminals, it has now been shown that they must also keep a watchful eye on those who are supposed to protect and serve. This paper will discuss the types of police abuse prevalent today, including the use of firearms and receipt of private information. I will also discuss what and how citizens' rights are taken advantage of by police. For these problems, solutions will be discussed, focusing on political reform, education, and citizen review boards.
Ethics in the criminal justice department are very important when it comes to the administration and measuring the ideas of values and production and deciding what is right and wrong. Individuals who are working in the criminal justice system must know that every decision that they make and the results that are chosen must all meet the needs for the citizens of that community they are serving and protecting. To be able to tell the difference one must research and read to find out what is needed to join an agency. Officer selection is a very critical and detailed process.
