Civil Disobedience’s The Help Civil Disobedience means in the most basic definition, to break a law when the law is unjust and reasonable. However those reasons can not only be moral and good, but personal and emotional. The film, “The Help,” features the life of a couple of black maids interacting with both good and bad white people. It shows the relationship between the black maids’ relationship with their employers. There are civil laws and unspoken laws around the black maids that govern their lifestyles and habits. Those lifestyles and habits affect everything from their sanitation habits to their livelihood. The film explains their personal reasons to risk their lives for the sake of their Civil disobedience. In the film, Minny, a strong spirited black mother sacrifice her job and nearly any chances of getting any job in her town for one act of rebellion. Miss Hilly is Minny’s boss and she treats her worst than most white people have treated their maids. She had set up a toilet system that forces most black maids to have a private toilet, which system attempts to further divide the two races. The toilet is outside the house and one day it was in a powerful storm. So Minny disobeys Miss Hilly and attempts to use the house’s toilet, but she is caught after she enters the bathroom. In that moment, she has a choice to leave the bathroom and keep her job, however she chooses to flush the toilet, thus her job, force her to go home in the storm. The film portrays the reason was out of emotion and pride and not for any moral reason or logic. She is hateful with pride and willing to sacrifice her job and facing a storm just to keep some of her pride. Justice cannot be brought to criminal who are not caught. After Miss Hilly fires Minny, Minny treats Miss Hilly to eat a pie filled with her feces, but as Miss Hilly’s mother tries to eat the pie, Minny
