City Living to Country Living May 21, 2012 Instructor Hubbard ENG 121 Living in the city and living in the country has its pros and cons depending on what type of lifestyle someone desires to live in. The differences are mainly the neighborhoods, the surrounding environment, as well as the amenities that each has to offer a person. Realize that neighbors may be miles apart in the country, while in the city; people can be stacked like sardines in crowded, tiny apartments. Some people like the feeling of never being alone in a city, while others take comfort in having plenty of room between themselves and the rest of humanity. Understand that because more people are concentrated in a city, you will find greater population in terms of race, religion, creed, and economic background than you would find in the country. Know that country life has more wilderness and unspoiled nature, along with fresh air and the opportunity to get water directly from a natural spring. City life, on the other hand, has more buildings than nature, and the air can be more polluted because of vehicular density and factories. Also, wild animals and farm animals are more abundant in the country, while animals in the city are more prevalent in isolated zoos, or living as pets in private dwellings. Take note that job opportunities will be more numerous in the city, because of the great diversity of industry and consumers as compared to the country. Be aware that obtaining necessities of life, such as food, equipment and clothing, can be more convenient in the city, with merchants operating close to home, often with late hours. Country living affords fewer opportunities to buy things in stores and less competition between merchants. However, people in the country often grow their own food, and being able to purchase almost anything over the internet is a leveling factor. Understand
