In the Grimm’s version of Cinderella (628-633), the day of the wedding Ashputtle begs to go. Her stepmother dumps a bowlful of lentils in the ashes and says that she will be allowed to go if she can pick up the lentils from the ashes in two hours. Ashputtle asks two doves to help her pick up the lentils. They help her, but once she is done, the stepmother again throws lentils in the ashes. (629).
Cinderella makes arrangements with her stepmother that is she finishes all her chores around the house, she can attend the ball. With no reason, her evil stepmother refuses to allow her to attend the ball with them. Luckily, her fairy godmother appears with everything she needs to attend the ball. In the poem “Penelope to Ulysses”, it illustrates her as a spider saying “…each night I unweave the web of my day…About me the insistent buzz of flies drones louder every day.” (797,2-5), while the flies are the suitors. When Penelope decides to have an archery match, the suitors are allured more by the riches and kingdom that comes with marriage rather than the marriage to Penelope itself. “…you recommended this house to feast and drink in, day and night,…you found no justification for yourselves—none except your lust to marry me.”(799,
In this story Panttaja says it is both mothers that are wicked. Panttaja states the real mother “plots and schemes, and she wins” (Panttaja 660) when it comes to fulfilling the wishes of Ashputtle. But actually the two mothers have the same goal in mind; to have their daughters married off and have a joyful life. To be able to do this, the real mother puts a charm on the prince to make him fall in love with Ashputtle instead of anyone else. The prince did not dance with anyone else all night and would always say “she is my partner” (Grimm 630).
Then, she agrees that she is going to do it that day in front of all of her new friends. Her spotlight turns though because the hair cut does not turn out well and everyone does not like it. That night, to seek revenge on her cousin, she cuts Marjorie’s hair when she is sleeping and walks to the train station to go home. The setting of this story is in an unknown Midwestern city in the 1920’s. It’s based in its regular publication in May, 1920 (Witkoski 2007).
For my movie analysis paper I chose to watch and analyze the movie “Cinderella.” This is a Disney movie released in 1950 about a young, poor girl who is treated harshly by her step mother and step sisters. Later in the movie, the kingdom is invited to a royal ball. Cinderella attends, dressed in a beautiful gown and glass slippers. She leaves, loses a slipper, and this sends the prince looking for his soul mate who lost the slipper. Eventually, the poor girl and the prince are reunited and get married (IMBD website).
I hadn’t even noticed the cat coming in until I hear Ashley shout "Mine black cat, Stacy.” Vivian later told me that the cats name is Stacy. Everything that Vivian was shown by Ashley, Vivian made a point to respond to Ashley’s findings and guided her when needed. After about 15 minutes of playing with her aunt Ashley started telling everyone in the room including her parents to go home. Vivian then says “But we are already home and you are home too! Where do you want us to go?"
