Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. --Matthew 14:19-20 Do you have enough in life? Do you have what you need? Are you satisfied? This gospel passage found in Matthew proves that Jesus Christ was “moved with compassion” for a “great multitude” of people, and in response to their need he healed, provided, and guided, just by a word, prayer, or a touch. God is also moved with compassion for us as his children. The gospel passage above signifies different values in Christianity. This reading can give different meanings and could be explained in many various ways. One way to experience this passage is by reading from Matthew 14:14-20. In these extra verses you really begin to understand a true meaning and story of this passage overall. In verse 17 “We only have five loaves and two fish,” it’s noticed that the disciples were increasingly upset, with the response that Jesus gave them in verse 16 “They do not need to go away; YOU give them something to eat” because they themselves had little, let alone enough for all the other followers of Christ. So when they complained to Jesus they were only seeing their needs and what they were lacking. In a way they were afraid and embarrassed by Jesus’ words, which is somewhat understandable. But God was demonstrating that he is calling us to be willing to give everything if it’s what he requires, and the fact that we have “little” is an insufficient excuse. God can take the little we have a make it more than enough to spare and to share. So the significance of the disciples actions is the fact that even though our flesh calls us
