Apart from letting in fresh air and light, they are exit and entry avenues whether in normal circumstances or whenever there is an emergency. It is therefore imperative that one exercise caution in choosing the right match. An individual in choosing one can therefore consider the following factors, before narrowing down on a particular one. Durability of the windows and doors, this is normally dictated by the material used. This implies that they are those that last long, whereas others will need to be replaced within a very short time. This can be costly in the long-run. Materials that are normally used are wood and metal. It is a common knowledge that the metallic ones will last longer than their wooden counterparts. One can, however, enhance the life span of a wooden one by painting it with a waterproof paint. The level of security that an individual desire. Steel windows and doors tend to discourage burglars, since they are very hard to break. On the other hand the wooden ones can easily be broken, providing an avenue for these uninvited guests. This will, however depend on other variables, such as the security level in the location. Safety of the occupants must be given greater weight. In case of emergencies, which are normally unforeseen, windows and doors should always provide an exit route. An individual should therefore ensure that windows are big enough to allow one pass through incase of accidents such as fire breakout; doors on the other hand should be easily accessible. For young children residing in a storey building especially the higher floors, the windows should be small such that in case they are open they cannot go through and be hurt by falling.
