Choosing my career after I finished school was much harder than I thought. During the following months, I contemplated any job between being a delivery boy to working in a bank. I understood that I had to find a career that would support my family’s income. It would also have to be one that would offer a sense of self esteem. My chosen career ended up being the so called noblest of professions, teaching. Getting into teaching looked a lot simpler than it actually was. First of all getting appointed as a teacher took me through the paces. My first task was to complete some application forms with the appropriate requirements. This having been done, took me to my next step of taking the interview. After my interview, the waiting seemed to form a world of its own. During my first months in teaching I wasn’t too sure that I had made the right career decision. I had imagined a class of beaming faces with eager eyes and a deep rooted passion for noise and frivolous behavior. My imagination wasn’t too far off. When I first arrived there the school was filled with children doing all sorts of things. There were children playing on swings, climbing steps and running in the yard. I should have followed my instinct which at that time was to run. However seeing other adults, teachers, gave me a measured sense of relief. After my first experience at being in a school I decided to continue with the profession. I took notes on all the things to do or not to do. There were days when it was quite rewarding to have made this career choice. Unfortunately, there were also days that questioned my resolve to stay in teaching. Nevertheless I ventured into the unknown or maybe, by then it was the known. Fully trained, sometime time after, and with diploma in hand I had purposed to be the best teacher that I could be. Finally, choosing my career as a teacher has indeed molded me in mind
