Today both Tootsie Roll Industries and Hershey are widely known for their candy products along with being publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Although an investor may love to eat the chocolate, they may not want to take that into consideration when deciding on whether or not to invest their hard earned money. Three items they may want to consider instead is the liquidity, solvency and profitability of the company. In the next three paragraphs I will analyze and compare the 2007 financial data for both Tootsie Roll Industries and Hershey based on the three types of analysis. Liquidity What is liquidity?
The cheaper chocolate that was produced was not of good quality. Customer satisfaction is the customer’s evaluation of a good or service in terms of whether that good or service has met their needs and expectations. Failure to meet needs and expectations results in dissatisfaction with the good or service. This case study indicates that the palates of the American had tired of the taste of mass produced chocolate and that the lack of industry innovation had left a bad taste in chocolate purveyors’ mouths. Everyone has grown up with American’s favorite the Oreo, we all have different ways to eating them. For example like dunking them into milk or twisting off one side and eating the creaming icing from inside or better yet dunking them into peanut butter (which is the best thing ever, in my opinion). Since the introduction on March 6, 1912 the Oreo cookies has become the bestselling cookie in the Unites States (Rosenberg, n.d.). Since then there has been close to 370 billon cookies sold which best is known as “best-selling” cookie. Making it the best-selling cookie of the twentieth century (Rosenberg, n.d.).
What does a cookie and some sugar equal? Only just one of the most delicious types of cookies sold worldwide! I was given the opportunity to taste test two sugar cookies made by two different chefs: Mrs. Woody and Mary Todd Lincoln. Both sugar cookies had excellent features in their flavors and their appearances. In my opinion, however, Mary Todd Lincoln’s sugar cookie tasted absolutely lip smacking.
Life, as we know it, is now more complicated than a box of chocolates, and with chocolates, you know what you’re getting. Most of us have heard the metaphor “Life is Like a Box of Chocolates.” It became popular from a movie that won six Academy Awards, Forrest Gump. This metaphor may have been true in the early to mid twentieth century, but not in today’s world. The only way in today’s world to get a random chocolate is to mix them up and not look at the table that defines the types of chocolates. I know what I like and do not like, and I will avoid certain chocolates at all costs!
You grab one because you can’t take wait any longer; as your mouth starts to water over the idea of just how amazing it will finally taste when once you take that first bite. As your teeth slowly begin to sink in, the cookie starts to break away from the rest of itself dragging along a few of those little chocolate chips. Once the bite is finally in your mouth, the taste of the chocolate chips mixed with the sugary vanilla cookie begin to melt away in your mouth taking you to a place where no bad days like today ever exist. Where the days are perfect and your only problem is that you don’t have enough cookies to eat. The warm gooeyness of the chocolate chips puts a smile on your face as they melt away on your taste buds.
I asked, “Hey, did you guys order the cake yet? Did you, did you?” He answered, “Well, if I tell you now I’ll ruin the surprise but if I don’t you’ll keep annoying me until I tell you, so I’ll just show you the cake.” He went to the refrigerator to take out the heart cake about sixteen inches long. I thought it was too big but I guess his parents wanted him to have the best sixteenth birthday party ever. I think it looks like chocolate devil’s food cake and it said, “Happy Sixteenth Birthday, Mark!” on the top of the cake. It might not be chocolate devil’s food cake but I know it is chocolate flavor because chocolate is Mark’s favorite flavor for cake and ice-cream.
