Week 2 – You Decide 1/15/2012 What techniques will you propose to CB to generate ideas that can be developed into viable concepts? There are four types of techniques I would propose to CB to generate ideas that can be developed into viable concepts. 1. Search of internal records – routine contact with past customers will record direct needs from the customer (Crawford and DeBenedetto). These needs may be in a form of complaints, suggestions, and criticisms. Ideas can be generated by analyzing these needs. 2. Direct input from technical and marketing – the technical and marketing personnel are more in touch with actual customers (Crawford and DeBenedetto). They may have ideas that have already been developed due to their level of understanding what the customer wants. 3. Problem Analysis – Asking the stakeholders what their problems are in the candy making industry may help develop solutions to these problems (Crawford and DeBenedetto). Analyzing what the problem is instead of focusing on what a customer needs will help create ideas to solve problems they already have. 4. Stakeholder Contacts – Voice of the consumer is a productive way to understand what the stakeholder wants (Crawford and DeBenedetto). There are multiple methods that can be used to understand what the stakeholder want/need/problem is such as interviewing, focus groups and observation. Of the many methods for ideation offered in contemporary literature, which represents the best for CB in this situation and why? The two techniques I would recommend CB use in this situation are to search their internal records and conduct a problem analysis. The CEO would like the research team to create a cacao product that will have health benefits. Combining this requirement with a solution that would solve a customer problem would increase the success rate of a new product.
