Chinese Culture Music, art, literature, customs, beliefs, and attitudes all depict a way of life. Otherwise this is known as culture which a group or particular country follows. The Chinese culture is partially reflected in the movie Beijing Bicycle. Beijing has a population of 17.4 million people which is approximately equivalent to two times the population of the state of New Jersey or the entire state of New York. Ten million bicycles ride in the city of Beijing everyday as a source of transportation. According to the movie Beijing Bicycle, the social organization in Beijing is divided into two groups, the wealthy and the poor. The rich people live in the city. However, the poor people live in the countryside. The affluent have better jobs while the deprived undergo hard employment opportunities. The well-heeled people live in impressive buildings, while the poor people live in crammed houses. Cars, buses, and the payment of taxes are for the rich people’s use, the bikes are for the poor. In search of jobs, the poorer people work on construction, farming, express delivery, and the shipment of medical equipment. In comparison to the movie Beijing Bicycle, the workers of express delivery receive only 20% of each delivery they make, while the boss receives 80%, and for transportation the employee receives a bicycle which they could keep until it is paid off with one month’s payment. Once a poor person obtains a job the boss changes their image for them to fit into their society. This demonstrates that in the Chinese culture people have to fit in, in order to be a part of the whole. Many live in Hutongs which are narrow streets or alleys, most commonly associated with Beijing, China. These alleys are formed by lines of siheyuan which are traditional courtyard residences.
