Nursery rhymes can be used as a great way to enhance our children’s ability to hear, recognize and use letter sounds. This method of teaching helps give children the practice they need to learn the language variations of daily use. Some nursery rhymes are short and full of alliteration and rhymes that make it ideal for children to quickly learn how to play with language and make it their own. There are many nursery rhymes that that show forms of alliteration and imaginative imagery. Nursery rhymes are short and easy to repeat, they become some of a child’s first words and sentences, which leads back to language development.

Villalobos-Vega Professor Mark Schwartz English 101 5 December 2014 Toys Today and the Effect they have on Children As children grow up they learn new things along the way like how to crawl, walk, speak, communicate, express themselves in different ways, and resolve problems. Children learn these things through many ways, but playing is one of the important methods for developing. Playing covers a great part of a child’s development process. Also, it incites the child to learn because it is a fun and entertaining way of learning. In addition there are props such as toys that children can play with and manipulate.
Little girls learn that they are supposed to like dolls and pink, while little boys learn that they are supposed to like trucks and the color blue. Through various forms of guidance and direction from external influences, children experience gender role socialization they quickly learn what behaviors are encouraged by their parents and peers, and which ones are not. These ideas are further reinforced by the media's portrayal of traditional gender roles. As a result, children internalize these beliefs pertaining to gender roles and their behavior is modified accordingly. The child's first influence in regards to gender roles is the family.
According to “ Importance of Pretend play/ Scholastic.com” Imaginary play builds language skills, cognitive skills and social and emotional skills. Toddlers enjoys dramatic play as they love feeding the baby, cooking dinner or cooking in the kitchen and acting out as adults. Objects involved in dramatic play helps children make sense of the everyday events, behaviours and the roles of other people around them. ( Birth to big school. Pg – 309).
The environment provided to the children is peaceful and relaxed. The parents specifically designated this time just for the two children so they can freely interact and play as they please. They also placed quite a few toys scared around the area for them to play while being supervised from a short distance. One of Piaget’s theories describes the children’s as “little scientists” which in a way is their drive for discovery. They are more then little babies who need to be feed with information to learn.
As a mother and teacher I have always been fascinated with how children learn. When my own two children were small (birth to 5 years) I realised that the way they learnt was through playing. Educational and stimulation toys and objects were used to stimulate their learning. I remember the sheer delight on their faces when they were playing and the enjoyment and fun while they were playing. Lots of people have different definitions of play, and it’s value, for example, Froebel (as cited in Curtis & O’Hagan, 2003, p. 113) believe play develops from within the child, but the presence of the adult and provision of appropriate material nurture it.
Research has shown that the sing-song speech, often accompanied by exaggerated facial expressions is loved by babies, (Rai & Flynn, p27). This ‘parentese’ language, which introduces infants to patterns in language helps them to develop it, and also promotes the start of developing a relationship. Adults have to provide for and give constant love and attention to the child. In the case studies this was identified to be ‘..paying close attention to them, doing things together, comforting when scared, praising and watching fondly, playing games and laughing together’, (Rai & Flynn, 2004, p48). All of these actions enable an adult to form a secure relationship with the child by showing them that the adult is ‘in-tune’ with them and is responsive to their needs.

Extraordinary motor advancements, coordination, speed, strength, and tireless energy are all displayed during the preschool physical and motor development. Through cognitive development, the preschool child become quite sophisticated in their thinking, think problems through prior to acting, and engage in new reasoning. Symbolically, preschool children have high imagination, tell elaborate stories, interpret and reinvent their lives in drawing and writing, and create fanciful world through make believe. Finally, during the preschool years, many children become quite independent and social interacting with the world around them through games and play activities.
Young children are interested in playing with many of the same things and not just gender specific toys. However society, the marketed media and parents inadvertently gear children towards playing with traditional male and female products. The article “Sweden Makes my Gender-Free Toy Christmas wish Come True” by Sarah Ditum exposes a toy gun made for both boys and girls. The Nerf Gunn is the step in the right direction toward breaking down the gender divide. Girls will be encouraged to step out of their gender roles and play with a toy usually marketed to boys .

This show contains pedagogical morals that appeal to the target audience though the characters’ experiences. Also, it relates the characters’ lives to those of the older public to appeal to a wider audience. The target audience learns important lessons from Spongebob. This show teaches children about many things that they need to know.
