The novel A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah is a book about the civil way in Sierra Leone which took place during the early 1990's all the way up until the early 2000's. During this civil war many human right were violated and some were even taken away from the innocent citizens of Sierra Leone by a group of men and children that called themselves the rebels. They were rebelling against the Sierra Leone government and their ways of showing their anger was by raiding villages and brutally attacking whoever was in the town at the time of attack. Then before they left the town they would burn down all the houses and buildings to ensure that no one could return to the village and survive. Some of the rights that were taken away from these citizens by the rebels were the right to life and the right to food and shelter for all.
Joseph Kony the head rebel leader on the planet. He stands accused of brainwashing countless children across northern Uganda. turning girls into sex slaves and boys into soilders making them kill their own parents. His so-called Christian movement, the Lord’s Resistance Army, has terrorized villagers in at least four countries in central Africa for nearly 20 years, killing tens of thousands of people. what he did was kidnap children to the point where they were scared to sleep at night in fear konys army would find them and steal them .
Horton accuses the governing body of frequently exploiting its power in having the Justice Department instigate repression among voters. Furthermore, the lawyers who were inspecting the unlawful actions of these political criminals were quietly discharged of their duty and the incriminating evidence was concealed. The Bush administration was also spying regularly on religious and political groups in the country, while it covertly introduced a tremendously illegal surveillance program that caused conflict among senior officials in the Justice Department. Horton attributes this illicit monitoring device as the reason behind the “War on Terror” because it misleadingly revealed all of intelligence’s information on Iraq to both
It is just crazy to me to think that the drugs that these kids are being prescribed are causing them to commit acts of violence upon other people or do very crazy things. The documentary opened up with a teenager named Cory Baadsgard, who was apparently on the prescribed drug Paxil which caused him to have hallucinations. He discussed an incident in where he did not want to go to school and decided that he would go later in the day. The only thing that he remembered was waking up in a juvenile detention center and was told that he held hostages at gunpoint. In the documentary they also displayed the terrible Columbine shooting that occurred in which two teens took many lives and one of them was on prescription drugs as well.
A world where we fear kissing our kids goodbye could be the last time we see them. Our world consist of a civilization that allows the under belly of society, to prey on helpless victims and sometimes get away with it. Whether a person is a small time purse snatcher or a fearless serial killer, criminals are among us every day. But why do these criminals commit such hateful crimes? What has driven them to prey on
Throughout history we have seen many tyrants create and even maintain conflict just to further their own ends, resulting in the loss of many innocent lives. The likes of Muammar Gaddafi, Joseph Kony, Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler. These self-obsessed leaders have only come to power by being corrupt and creating conflict causing thousands of innocent people to suffer, they have used their high authority to steal land, money and even force their religious views/options. Roughly 66,000 innocent children have been abducted and made to kill their parents by Kony; 20,000 people were killed during Gaddafi’s reign; 300,000 people were murdered by Benito Mussolini and 7 million were executed or worked to death by Hitler. In total, at least 7386,000 people were murdered all because tyrannical, self-obsessed leaders wanted to further their own ends.
People stop trusting each other, and every stranger becomes an enemy.” Written by Ishmael Beah in A Long Way Gone, that quote represents complete devastation that the war in Sierra Leone had on the people. Truthfully, reading about Beah’s experiences in his home country kept me intrigued and excited for more, but at the same time made me think about how my life would have been as a young girl in a similar situation. The Sierra Leone Civil War began when the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) and the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) attempted to overthrow President Momoh’s government. In Beah’s story, the military took control of villages and towns with ease using children as soldiers. Beah and his friends chose to run from both the rebels and the army, while both were corrupt and taking part in the same murderous actions.
he was on the run for many years until one of his victims reported to the police officers and they capture him , but it was amazing that they taught he was the wrong person and let him loose what a huge mistake they made with out knowing he was the serial killer they been looking for. once he became free man again he stiked again many
In this case, a psychotic individual named Daniel M'Naghten intentionally and with premeditation killed an assistant to a prime minister of England because he believed he was being persecuted (Kimberly Collins, Gabe Hinkebein, and Staci Schorgl (3Ls), n.d.). Ever since then, the insanity plea has been used in numerous case throughout the years to try and get people of crimes that knowingly committed, but do not want to admit that they did. What is the significance of the M’Naghten Rule? What is so significant about the M’Naghten rule is that how
Columbine Massacre Criminology March 12, 2009 On April 20, 1999 in Littleton, Colorado two students Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris committed what is thought to be one of the worse school massacres to ever happen. To this day law enforcement officials as well as others continue looking for just cause as to why these boys would commit such acts, and in the end take their own lives. The massacre that was committed by Dylan and Eric was not only criminal, but deviant as well. Criminal acts are those violating the law, which Eric and Dylan did on numerous levels during this massacre. They had possession of illegal firearms which included a Intratec TEC-DC9, a Hi-Point 995 Carbine, Savage 67H pump action shotgun, and a Stevens 311D double
