The purpose of washing the test tubes thoroughly is so the chemicals don’t cross contaminate and affect the outcome of another section of the lab. Hypothesis: 1. If a substance contains lipids then when rubbed onto a paper bag a transparent or opaque spot will appear. 2. Is a substance contains starches then when iodine solution is added to the substance it will change from yellow-brown to blue-black.
Finding the Ratio of Moles of Reactants in a Chemical Reaction I. Purpose The purpose of the lab is to be able to find the ratio of mole reactants in the chemical reaction. The lab uses the method of continuous variations in order to determine the mole ration of two reactants. The chemicals that were used in the lab where sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), and sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3). II.
* What is this substance This substance is iodide Confidence Report The aim of extraction, is to separate a part of raw material, using a solvent such as water with heat. A tincture of iodine is a common medicine sold in many pharmacies, used as an antiseptic on cuts of the skin. The objective of the seaweed lab, is to produce a tincture of iodine by extracting Iodide and other components (seen when a mixture of iodine is present), from seaweed. We
When you smell caraway oil, you will get a moist wood type smell. When you smell the spearmint oil, you should smell a really strong minty smell. Not only is it really minty, but it has a slight smell of alcohol. In the second part of this lab, you will be using an analytical gas chromatography. The analytical gas chromatography will tell you the retention times of the components in your substance.
Aromatherapy message uses some of the above essential oils as well as physical massage. A spa offers this type of therapy. Essential oils can be used to help relax one while the muscles are being rubbed by the act of inhaling a desired aroma. The oils can also be applied directly to the skin. The expectation is that the oil is going into the blood stream to help elevate a particular aliment.
So as a precaution to prevent infection being spread from the bacteria on the hand they often wash their hands regularly with anti-bacterial hand wash. Standard Precautions * Protect broken skin * Observe the hand hygiene policy * Use protective clothing correctly * Observe aseptic precautions for all invasive procedures/manipulation of catheters. * Clean, disinfect and/or sterilise as appropriate reusable equipment between each use. * Handle and dispose of bed linen correctly. * Dispose of sharps and clinical waste correctly. * Clean/disinfect spillages of blood/body fluids as per guidance.
Introduction Eugenol is an essential oil with a formula of C10H12O2 and a member of the phenylpropanoid family. It is mainly found and isolated from cloves or bay leaves and presents as a colorless or pale yellow oily compound. Essential oils and extracts of various species of plants, herbs, and spices constitute very potent natural biologically active agents (1). Many of these compounds are volatile and are able to undergo steam distillation in order to isolate the oil. Eugenol has a boiling point of approximately 248° C, but can be isolated from cloves at a lower temperature by performing a co-distillation with water.
We could also determine the efficiency of our alum at clearing the beaker of muddy water. Introduction: The purpose of the experiment is to see the chemical process of aluminium foil, potassium hydroxide (KOH), and sulphuric acid (H2SO4) to have alum (KAl(SO4)2 12H2O) crystallize as a product. The compound is used widely for the treatment of wastewater in plants, water purification, the preparation of some food products, and dyeing of fabrics. The method used during this experiment was suction filtration; it uses a vacuum caused by water to filter out any impurities and also to collect any product that is created during the experiment. The equipment used during this experiment was a Buchner funnel that is attached to a filter flask with the use of a rubber ring to ensure that suction can occur.
Casein is mixed with other ingredients to make a type of plastic that's used for buttons. It is extracted from the proteins of the milk: in the milk, casein is structured in voluminous globules. These globules are mainly responsible for the white colour of the milk. According to various species, the casein amount within the total proteins of the milk varies. A globule is like a big blob of something gooey that can repeatedly change shape in the air.
Acetone is used in many different products such as, makeup, bread (to bleach flour), gasoline additive, and the most common use: nail polish remover. Acetone is the active ingredient in nail polish remover along with ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, aloe Vera, glycerin, cetyl acetate, and petroleum that breaks down and dissolves the polish from the surface of the nail. Acetone is also used as a solvent for things like different plastics and synthetic fibers. It is perfect for thinning paint, dissolving extremely strong glue, as well as removing any other strong adhesives, and is a heavy-duty degreaser. Acetone is found naturally in different plants, trees, remains of forest fires, and volcanic gases.
