Chemical Engineer - Abroad Studies

A Chemical engineer is supposed to have a multicultural background. How would the opportunity to study abroad for a year or a semester fit into your career plan ? Nowadays the multicultural knowledge is more and more important for everyone, not only for engineers. In this essay we will try to explain in which year it’s the most comfortable to do a year abroad and then I will talk about my personal experience. First, we must consider where we can or want to go before saying where we go. If you want to go outside of the European Union there is more paper to fill and you need more time to plan your journey like if you have the opportunity to study in the USA it needs a long time of preparation. It depends also if you can go thanks to an exchange program with your school or if you do it alone. In Europe you have more opportunities thanks to all European program like Erasmus or exchange programs between schools powered by the European union like Regio Chimica, my program. The more time you need to prepare your year the later you can go. But I think it’s easier to do that kind of year in the first three years of your study because the level is not to high to understand in the other country. Thanks to the Regio Chimica Program I could do a bi-national Bachelor in which I could go one year abroad, the second year. I think it’s the best year to go because you have enough chemical knowledge to understand the beginning of the lessons and Germany is near Alsace so you can get used to the environment before you go. To conclude we can say that a year abroad is easier to do in Europe in the beginning of your study and it’s easier later if you want to go somewhere else because you need time and
