Many police organizations respond to reactive patrol responses rather than proactive patrol. In this brief summary we will discuss what reactive patrol is and how it differs from proactive patrol. We will further discuss what would happen if police organizations were to adopt one of the patrol styles. Police organizations around the world are often responding to calls for help and this is considered as reactive patrol. Reactive patrol is when police organizations around the world respond to a situation which is either called in or brought to their attention. This type of patrol can be the result of a request of 911 emergency calls or perhaps a citizen flagging them down. Reactive patrol does have benefits to help fighting crime yet at times if a proactive stance was taken maybe a reactive patrol would not be in order. Proactive patrol is when a police organization will assign an officer to patrol a certain area in order to deter criminal activity from happening. Proactive patrol has been known to deter crime in areas where criminal activity is high. Providing proactive patrol can deter criminals from actually committing the crime but it does not always deter the crime from happening in the first place. Creating the awareness in a community there are police nearby does help deter the crime from taking place. In order for a police organization to be successful it would take both patrols to reach this goal. One without the other in my eyes would not work. Reactive patrol takes care of the calls of emergency which come in daily and proactive patrol would take care of preventive patrol. One without the other in my eyes would produce a chaotic city. If there was no reactive patrol then there would be no one to respond to emergency. If there was no proactive patrol then there would be no one to take care of our citizens.
