2). Instead of searching for a better educational environment, students look for better tests numbers. Lang Wood goes on by stating “Students can easily become discouraged and negative about education in general, which affects their learning ability” (par. 2). In addition to what Lang Wood believes, Stephens claims, students who are taking the test suffer from stress in result of worrying about passing it.
They always cheat in the exams. It makes them face a lot of issues. First, although they pass the test and grade but they will be lacking of knowledge. Second , they will be dependent on others. Moreover, if they are caught when they are cheating they will be expelled.
Renato Gomes English 102 09/09/2014 The believing and doubting game Claim #1 – A student should report a fellow student who is cheating on an exam or plagiarizing an essay Believe: If a student see other student cheating on an exam or plagiarizing an essay he should report it, because the student is taking advantage of the others, he is going to do better in a test than the ones the actually really study hard, that isn’t fair to the others. If the student cheat or plagiarize he or she won’t be learning anything besides how to search things on google, a lot people cheats because they want to do good in a test, but the same time they use to create different ways to cheat, they could be studying and actually learning like the others students, even if they don’t do so good in the test, but at least they are trying and learning. Doubt: The student who caught the other cheating on a test or plagiarizing an essay should not report it, because he is not being affected, he or she is learning, studying, doing the right thing , even if the student that was cheating do better in the final grade , he or she didn’t learn anything , what in the future will make the difference. Cheat on a test or plagiarism is a choice that every student have and some make this choice , so is their problem since they are the ones that are not learning, so that is no why the others students should report it if is not harming them. Claim #2 – Woman should be assigned to combat duty equally with men Believe: Woman should be assigned to combat duty equally with men because they should be treated like normal soldiers, if they pass their test they need to pass, there is no reason why they shouldn’t be able to be assigned to combat, passing the test, the soldiers show that they are capable of being on duty.
When the teachers were asked why they feel bored they would blame it on the kids, saying that they were rude and only were worried about their grades (Paraphrase?). When Gatto was younger his grandfather taught him a very valuable lesson about boredom and that was that if he was ever bored it was his own fault and nobody else’s. He learned that is was his responsibility to educated and entertain himself. Gatto then continues with “Do we need school? Is this deadly routine necessary?”(24).
In The Power of One, although Hoppie influences Peekay for a short amount of time, he turns Peekay’s life around and leads him to his greatest passion, boxing. Hoppie realizes that Peekay’s brokenness and depression is caused by the kids at school who bully him for being a rooinek, and he shows Peekay compassion and kindness. Without Hoppie Peekay may have never been introduced to boxing or be proud to be a rooinek. With the loss of Granpa Chook fresh in his head, Peekay reaches his lowest point. He tries to camouflage himself so he does not stand out as a rooinek because the kids at school bully and discriminate against him because of his English heritage.
Therefore we are losing our ability to determine what right and wrong looks like. Winston the main character of 1984, is attracted to the brotherhood because they are revolutionary yet he does not know why resistance is a good thing. He gets tortured for something he does not know why he has an affinity for and this is exactly what Postman meant, we are amusing ourselves yet we have no idea why we are laughing. We are gradually becoming apathetic on what should matter and we are a basically just going with the flow. We are refusing to ask uncomfortable questions in fear of questioning our sanity and this where schools come
Many teachers do not like “catching plagiarists and bringing them to academic justice.” As she states, it is not hard to just cite the author that originally had the information you are using (Bojar). Plagiarism is becoming a big problem in the school system. Many students do not understand what needs to be cited and what does not. The school system should teach students the proper way to cite, and they should teach them that copy and pasting is not writing a paper. According Bojar to students at the community college have a hard time juggling classes along with his or her family and a job.
Many young adults struggle through school, graduate and enter the real world lost, helpless and years behind. It’s so easy to blame these irresponsible kids, but who’s really to blame? Wait, how could it not be they’re fault? You’re just playing the blame game. Wrong!
NCLB was established so that students were not held back in a grade and were promoted to the next grade. I think this is a political aspect that is failing our students. If a student is not understanding the material or doesn’t pass the tests showing that they understand and can retain the information, I don’t believe that they should be promoted. I believe that it only hurts the students because they get more behind as they advance through the levels. The ethical issues that regard the high stakes testing is that it could be unfair to some students.
Not every time is this the case, so many times we see monetary and material support provided to student athletes. Some times we even see academic cheating taking place to support the athlete in the class room. So when the bribes and the special favors to both the athlete and parents are offered it is unethical and should be avoided. The university and staff need to be charged with the responsibility to be ethical in all dealings especially with the future leaders of
