St Giles International San Francisco Assignment: Language-Related Tasks The purpose of the assignment: One of the main duties of an EFL teacher is to clarify the meaning / use, grammar operation, and pronunciation of new language items for learners. To do this effectively, the teacher has first to analyze the language and to make use of grammar reference materials. This assignment will give you practice with the approach to language analysis that you will need to use when planning language focus lessons in TP. Assessment criteria: Successful candidates can demonstrate their learning by: * Analyzing language correctly for teaching purposes * Correctly using terminology relating to form, meaning and phonology when analyzing language * Accessing reference materials and referencing information they have learnt about language to an appropriate source * Using written language that is clear, accurate and appropriate to the task Instructions * Complete the task using the attached worksheets. If you write by hand, please use ink and make sure your writing is legible. * Assume you are presenting the items to a Low Intermediate Level class. * You will need to use a grammar reference, such as Michael’ Swan’s “Practical English Usage” or Raymond Murphy’s “Grammar in Use.” The Assignment * For each of the language items listed below: clarify the item’s basic meaning and use; describe a suitable illustrative presentation context; give an appropriate Marker Sentence; describe any significant pronunciation features in your Marker Sentence; indicate how you would check the concept; show the item’s grammar form or pattern as you might outline it on the board for students; and provide at least one problem (with a solution) concerning one of these: meaning/use, form or pronunciation. * Do not use our example sentence as your
