Imagine an instructor trying to teach a class and all of a sudden a song will start to play. The instructor stops what he or she is doing or saying, the class is no longer paying attention, and someone has to quickly turn off their phone or jump and run out of class to answer the call. That alone is completely uncalled for. A cell phone in class can be very disruptive. These days a ringtone can be almost anything, it could be a song of choice or some one else’s voice yelling to answer the phone, or even a ringtone to make others laugh. For example, the instructor may be going over an important study guide for an exam and a fellow student forgets to turn off their cell phone, the cell phone rings and the whole class has then become distracted. Students tend to drift off in class anyway and with the distraction of having a cell phone makes it worse. When the class becomes disrupted it causes lack of focus. How can students gain knowledge if they are disrupted by a single cell phone that someone has not turned off before entering the classroom? Second, cell phone use in class can also be very impolite to other classmates as well as the instructor especially if the person is talking, texting and surfing social network sites on the internet with their phone. It is very important to pay close attention to the instructors lecture. It is also impolite not showing compassion to others that have the opportunity to learn, and others who are polite to their fellow classmates. Sometimes when people talk on cell phones they tend to ramble on about personal problems and even say a few cuss words that other students and/or the instructors may not be interested in
