Why do people have the need to compare one’s life to others, especially those seated at the high chairs of society? Is the Average Joe worshiping celebrities for the sake of being famous, or is he worshiping real heroes? Ordinary people have numerous beginnings for their overly obsessive interest with celebrities. The explanations for such fascination can be related to the emptiness felt in the human heart, immoderate exposure to the famous, and low self- esteem. People constantly search for ways to fill the void that is felt in their lives. One way is through their attraction to celebrities’ lives. They feel as if fame and fortune will cure that hole. They crave fame and fortune deeply that they want to know absolutely everything about the people who do have it. People with this feeling also think their lives are not interesting, at least not enough to share with others or to even enjoy themselves. Therefore they turn to the lives of the famous as a form of conversation to escape their own undesired reality. There is an abundance of media consumption in today’s household. Television, movies, and the Internet are dominant fixtures in the lives of the common public. Celebrities are partaking in the modern familie’s everyday live. People tune into celebrity news while at dinner and drifting off to sleep through television, magazines, or sources on the internet. With technologies’ increase, celebrities’ life story, greatest accomplishments, ultimate failures, their location, and even their current thoughts are at the touch of a finger for today’s society.
