Global Warming Louis Clemens HUM/111 11/20/2011 Katie Newbanks Global warming has become a major concern over the last century. The world is much hotter now than the past. Many reasons are to blame for this global temperature increase such as fossil fuels releasing C02 emissions. C02 emissions are released from coal, oil, and natural gas burning. Coal, natural gas, and oil are burned for energy in many ways such as cars and power plants.

Global warming which has brought about increase in the temperatures is disturbing the natural cycle of the ecosystem. This has brought upon an increased droughts throughout the world. The droughts and increased heat has had negative impacts on local aquatic invertebrates.
Due to sea level rising coral reefs are getting destroyed, as they cannot survive in water above 25m. Also the increase of sea levels changes the nutrient flow, which will further damage the food chains. Furthermore coral bleaching is another side affect of global warming which affects the coral reef. Coral bleaching is permanent damage and is effected globally. It gets especially worse during an El Nino year.
The nitrous oxide gases affect the aquatic ecosystem food web chains, which leads from the smallest phytoplankton up to the largest mammal, which is man. The methane and the chlorofluorocarbon on the ground level effects the farm animals and vegetation of the farming community, leading to crops yielding less production, which will affect the economy. The long-term effect of climate change has medical consequences. Some medical conditions are upper respiratory damage, skin cancer, and asthma; such conditions have ended in death of some citizens. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice are two government agencies that regulate companies that violate the Clean Air Act.
The inability of rain will led to increase heat and that may lead to have dryer soils and that would have a big impact in our agriculture. Productivity will decline. Even though if that happens irrigation to fill water needs could be a way to help the need of rain. The soil of Indiana is a major natural resource that temperature changes will affect, hotter drier summers, would be the main cause of loss soil organic matter and will result an increased soil respiration. Loss of soil will decrease the ability to retain moisture and specially essential nutrients for plant growth.
These industrial activities have raised atmospheric gases such as carbon dioxide which contribute to greenhouse gases. The extra amount of these gases mean there is a thicker layer, meaning the gases absorb outgoing long-wave radiation which traps in too much heat. Increasing amounts of CO₂, methane, nitrous oxide, water vapour and ozone all contribute to this. The main cause in this rise is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, natural gas and petrol. Since the industrial revolution the levels of atmospheric CO₂ have increased from 280 parts per million to 380ppm for the past 10,000.

This is significant, because if one species of animals departs, it causes the food cycle to be rearranged endangering the lives of multiple living organisms. They provide one of Canada’s largest negative impacts on the environment, releasing poisonous carbon dioxide emissions which are getting out of control. If these greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced it can result in the melting of polar ice caps in the Arctic. These oil sands are not only poising the air which we inhale, but also numerous waterways, food supplies, and if this process continues, possibly endangering the extinction of species.
